Shy Dogbane Tiger Moth Caterpillar Hiding Behind His Dinner
Walking around a small pond, I discovered this hungry little guy munching on a dogbane leaf. I moved in very close, even tickled him with my camera's lens, but he was NOT moving. Nope. No way! Which was perfect for me because I had tickled him totally by accident. ;-)
True, I know very little about caterpillars but I do know a fair amount about plants so I googled "caterpillar" and "dogbane" and discovered a picture of another Dogbane Tiger Moth Caterpillar.

superb macro!
Thanks for your visit to my SkyWatch Friday post, EG.
I'm on the road and in the field doing another photo trip chasing the bloom of our Rosebay Rhododendron (white blossoms) in the northern area of the Southern Appalachian mountains, and with lodging that does not have the most reliable internet service. I won't be home again for a few more days yet, but I did finally develop and upload a few images to update my July 7 Rhododendron post.
Sunrise this morning was a washout, literally, with locally heavy thunderstorms--looks like the rain won't ease up until later morning so I'm going to breakfast soon. But I wanted to try and get around to all who visited my SWF, and others too while I still have good internet access. So, please forgive this cut & paste with a small bit of personalization added--I do appreciate your visit and your comments.
Great macro! And the images of the prior post as well as your SWF are great.

That's a great macro! I wonder if he feels soft to the touch or prickly.
You Super Sized him! I'll bet he can polish off a lot of that plant.

Isn't there a saying that the length of the whiskers on a caterpillar is directly linked to the severity of the coming winter? But does that mean long fur = hard winter or short fur = long winter? Well, let's not even think about winter yet, I want to concentrate on summer!
Wow! Some amazing shots! I am off to google to see what it will look like as a moth!

These really are great! Your photographs are so clear, and sharp--do you do much editing of them?
Road Less Photographed,
Sometimes I crop my photos because in my haste to catch criters before they fly or mover off I capture unwanted bits and pieces. But I don't use phoshop...for one thing, I can't afford it!
