Red mushrooms/ Ruby Tuesday

I don't know a lot about mushrooms, but I think this is a rufous milkcap. Whatever! I'm not planning to eat them, just photograph them. ;-)

Now that it's fall, mushrooms are popping up everywhere in the forest where I frequently walk and I can't resist taking their photos.

And here's a new one. Its cap is still rounded on top, but as it ages it will eventually become indented like the the one in the first photo.

What fun to come upon one of these rubies! I love the classic Mushroom Cap on them.

We call them Fly-mushrooms. As a child I would walk in a large bow around them, of fear for their toxins.
Now I also can see their beauty.

I don't think I've ever seen one so red. Does look toxic. I wouldn't eat one of those. I guess it's safe to photograph!

Kinda looks like the inside of a watermelon...I think of fungi as ugly, however I'll re-think my assessment...scarlet mushrooms. Who thought that up?!

I haven't seen this kind of colour to a mushroom. Great photos. Are these mushrooms poisonous or you can eat them?

What a great capture and idea. That schroom looks like it might give a person nightmares. I'm glad you're not planning on sauteed mushrooms for your omlette in the morning.

What a cute mushroom. You'd almost expect to see miniature fairytale characters camped underneath it. Happy Ruby Tuesday.

It seems as though a fairy might peek right out from under this lovely hiding place.

The bottom one looks like the "easy" button from Staples.

Hey! I had a shot of that first one up just a couple of weeks ago. But I didn't know what it was called. So I guess they grow everywhere, eh?

Love the color of the second one even better though. How vibrant a red is that?

Nice offering for this R/T!

Seems a lot of us are amazed by the idea of a red mushroom. Very pretty and no, I wouldn't be cooking it either.

Great pics, I love photographing mushrooms. They stand so still and pose so nicely!!! hahaha
We had a frost forecast last night and I covered up the remaining impatiens and picked the green tomatoes, but I think it stayed just above freezing.

I wonder what are these named. We used to pick up mushrooms back in Czech, but these do not look edible to me :o)

Hi and thanks for visiting my blog! I love mushrooms - I'm thinking this one is a species of Russula, maybe sanguinea. I've studied mycology a bit, but I would never eat one picked from the wild unless I was absolutely positive it was OK - it's just too risky!
