Hillside and fences/ Sky Watch

Lines: fences, trees and even the clouds

Are you beginning to see a trend in my photos lately? I seem to be fixated on fences. And truly they do fascinate me, especially this time of year when they show up so well in the snow. They create lovely lines, as do the the trees at the edges of fields.

Fences...

I remember fences and old fences in farmer fields that had grown twenty or more feet wide on each side. Making a sanctuary and habitat for wildlife, wild trees and berry bushes. It was filled with groundhogs, coyotes and foxes and rabbits, and pheasants. A wealth of wildlife.

Then, farmers stopped milking cows and planting tobacco and tomatoes and turned to corn, wheat and sybeans and they could only increase their income if they increased the dirt they plowed to plant in.

You guessed it...the fences and fence rows disappeared and all of the wildlife has had to find new homes are died in the process.

I love this hillside view of that dainty sky with the thinnest of clouds floating lightly overhead and as a stark contrast the wire fence in the foreground

A great sky watch capture, your winter photographs are all very good.

Yes, I had noticed & if I had to guess, I'd say you're a clean lined person - meaning you don't like clutter & you like things organized! Am I right?

Stark and dramatic, great composition! Beautiful shot! Doesn't get any better! Thanks!

I love your fences! And this shot! It looks as cold as it should wintertime, and the fence has a natural place in the photo. Just beautiful!

Beautiful - fences do hold a fascination for sure - especially as they trace through the snow like yours do in this shot. Very nice perspective . . .

I used to sing a song years ago in 4-H club:
'Give me land, lots of land under starry skies above, don't fence me in' I remember it everytime I see a fence.
(Oh,I see Shammickite already beat me to that little ditty.)
Great shot!

Incredible shot that includes several fences and even barbed wire! :)

Oh, wow. That's one of best photos I've seen recently...great lines streaking across the landscape. Very nice!

That picture is so clear I feel I could jump right into it.

Me again. I thought I'd pop back over and answer your question about what looks like steam or smoke in my shot. I don't know what it is. I thought it was jet stream but odd how it was going vertical instead or horizontal.

This is one great skywatch photo.

Wonderful photo! I like all the lines and angles.

It's a nice picture on many levels, but the two strands of barbed wire in the foreground take it to a whole new level.

I love the fences in your photos! There is always so much to look at in yoru photos that I find them very interesting.

I also LOVE SNOW! We got some snow last night so that makes 18 tiems it snowed. It wa all gone by late morning tho. I almost missed it all because I did not wake up warly to see it when the alarm went off.

You are not going to climb over those barb wires are you? My brother, then 10 years old had a coil of wire drop on his leg. I can still feel that pain.

Love the snow. It is not melting yet, is it?

Darla said...

This looks almost like a pen and ink drawing. I especially like the wire in the foreground,

I agree. The way fencelines bisect and delineate a shot can really elevate a simple landscape into something special, as they do here.

Nice composition Guy and I have a fixation with fence posts, so I understand!

Adrienne Zwart said...

Interesting the way the clouds seem to follow the same line as the hillside and fences. Beautiful shot!

Ps. Now I am waiting for some night shots from Canada. ;)

Hi Ms. EG Guide, yes, you do like to take those fences. And you take good pictures.
Adi pulled my Kodak off the counter by the charging cord as she walked by. It was in the 9800's, about to roll over to 10K pictures.
My new Sony I got for last Christmas already has 6485 plus (that number was the Adi looking for squirrels picture.
Happy Skywatching, you saw that I am Looking at the Sky instead now.
