The disappearing showy lady slipper (Cypripedium reginae) in the wild
...but I've found a small patch growing in East Gwillimbury.
One reason they are becoming rare is because they do NOT transplant well. Another is that subdivisions, roads or parking lots now cover their habitat.

I don't know much about orchids. The only thing that I know is what my heart tells me every time I see an orchid, it's about beauty and feelings of happiness that this delicate flower brings inside my soul!
Fabulous pictures!

I haven't see one in the wild since I was a teen. :D
Hi EG, We lose so much when 'progress' takes over and our critters and flowers and so many things get misplaced. The Lady Slippers are so pretty.. Hope you can find more somewhere.
Hugs,
Betsy
You've captured some wonderful shots of it.
I don't think I've ever seen one.
Sadly, progress isn't really progress sometimes.
I have never seen one in the wild before, it is so beautiful.
I've never seen wild orchids, but they sure are beautiful.
Beautiful. I know it is against the law (at least in New Hampshire, where I used to hike in my youth) to pick those charming things. Love how you captured them.
very special there is a wild orchid here at Biologiocal station that you need a magnifying glass to find..??
This spring the lady slipper staged a comeback in this part of Massachusetts. Ours are a slightly deeper colour and seem to like a forest floor strewn with pine needles. When you find one, it's almost like coming upon a fairy.
Ah, that's a great flower, first time I've seen it I guess. I've posted something about a lady flower too for today.
I love wild flowers that orchids is very beautiful. I put my entry at My Little Angels
I am not sure if I have seen wild orchids. But they look very lovely!
I have always loved these beautiful and difficult to find orchids. Wonderful fresh shot of them.
The 'Orchid' is very nice... and the droplets of water bring more of natures beauty out in these captures.

Wow, nice and so pretty.
Very beautiful specimens.
Thanks for sharing.
That is sooo sad about their future. . . but in the meantime I get to enjoy it thru your photos! It is simply divine and no other words fit it.
So beautiful and so delicate. When will we leave our wild things alone. I found some wild Orchids last year up in the North Cascades---I hope they returned this year. I'd better check it out. MB
EG: I love your orchid show.
