Female or non-breeding male red-breasted merganser
Mergansers fishing close to the shore
In the second photo, they are diving for small fish. They were mostly under water so were hard to capture with my camera. Don't you love their punk hair-dos?

You have a fantastic ability to hit the nail - every time.
Beautiful 'water' pictures of the Mergansers, EG. They are headed for warmer weather I'm sure.
Hugs,
Betsy
Wonderful pictures. I do love there hair do.
I definitely do like those punk hair-dos. Both pictures are wonderful, but I especially like your first one.
Outstanding piccies! The Mohawks rock! I'm glad to have stopped by. The one with just its head sticking out of the water is such an unusual sight.
The first one is outstanding but I also like the trilogy a lot!
Beautiful birds and a great capture for the photographer. I find birds to be very uncooperative subjects.
Great pics here. I love these birds.
These are fantastic shots, I would love to see for myself and enjoy.
Love the Mergansers. They have cool doo's.
Great capture!
I've never seen these before, either. They must not make it all the way down to Florida!
Beautiful photos, E.G. I especially like the action of the first one!
Both are BEAUTIFUL photos ;-)
Thanks for looking them up and sharing what you found. I love learning new things as I visit.
Hugs and blessings,
Great shots! Yes I really do like those punk hair-dos. They look so cool.
great shots, red headed water clowns!
Great shots, especially the second one!
the first photo is spectacular! what a great capture.
Looks like they're dancing!
Come and swim with the Whale shark
great shots, I wish someone would take a picture of you taking a picture so you could post it. I have a vision in my head of you intensly leaning into the camera, focusing the lens and snapping shot after shot. I'd love to see it.
They look like they are having a good time. I think I seen a couple of these at the strip pits last fall/winter but they were too far away to identify for sure.
Beautiful, did you have to wait a long time to shoot such a great photo?
It is beautiful...Happy watery Wednesday.
Very 'rad' looking.
I photographed these glorious birds on the creek all summer. I even posted a mama and her 8 babies riding on her back. Aren't they beautiful?
Thanks too for the tip about the dead head Queen Anne's Lace. I found some open the other day when it was humid here. I didn't know this.
Happy WW.

Well, if they were making it hard to get photos, you outwitted them!! These are gorgeous! I really love the water in the second shot, where the three of them must have come up at much the same time!!
I've never seen such bird before. Interesting bill. The water looks velveteen smooth.
Very neat shots. Birds are hard to capture specially with wing going. I like it. MB
The color of the water is awesome!
Absolutely, animal photography is quite challenging but you mastered it perfectly.
We egt these at the cottage EG. We also call the Fish Ducks,as that's what they eat and it gives them a very fishy flavour. Can't eat a Merganser.
