What a fine photograph. You even got him with a peanut in his beak! That's pretty amazing. Good-looking bird, too. Down here the red-headed woodpeckers like our palm trees...rascals can make a mess in now time.
Re your question/comment about palm trees. We used to live in Scottsdale, and I don't think the palms are different there. Perhaps the Phoenix area has more of the Royal Palms. But, I'm no expert on palm trees...so take that for what's it worth. :-)
Really good shot! I like hairy and downey woodpeckers--we have both here--but they don't come to the feeders very often. I think they're more shy than the chickadees!
Terrific shot! Your feeder looks very much like the finch feeder we have in our backyard, now covered by a heavy layer of recent snowfall. PS. Check Leif's Eagan post for this Sat. for a surprise!!
A few years ago I saw a woodpecker nesting in a tree behind my Mom's condo but since then nothing. It was so much fun to watch working up and down the tree. - Margy
East Gwillimbury is a rural town less than an hour north of Toronto, Canada's largest city.
My family calls me CameraGirl because I take my camera with me wherever I go.

This is a great picture of the woodpecker. I'm glad he was able to get his snack.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
They sure get their exercise in getting their food!

What a handsome little fellow. I can't wait until they come back here.
I'd take peanuts over suet any day!
I wouldn't even have known this was a woodpecker! I wouldn't mind peanuts either even though it is now... raining.

I love bird watching through your camera.

Amazing bird, so sweet, I'm so enchanted by the "little red"spot in his head, it's beautiful!

Love peanuts too. Nice close-up.
Fine shot and I like seeing his little toes grasping the feeder. Glad he got his snack.
That's a great portrait of that handsome birdie!
Thanks for commenting on my blog. What a great capture of the little bird! He is so keen on having a snack!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hairy's are common up here;but never dull. Nice shot. Gary & Boom from the Vermilon River.
Cool visitor! I've always wondered what the "purpose" of the red spot is. I'll have a photo of a downy woodpecker up sometime tonight.
Absolutely perfect!
Great capture!
Neat! I had no idea they would come down to a bird feeder!

There are lot's of woodpeckers in the nearby oak woodland. I've been wondering if they would come here if I put out the right food.
Awww, I bet they ARE tasty on a cold winter day... he needs a ledge to rest on! heheheee =)
Very crisp close-up!
Note to self, get feeder with peanuts to attract woodpeckers. I just got a 200mm telephoto that I'm dying to use.
Wow - fantastic close-up!
What a great capture!
