This is a great picture of the woodpecker. I'm glad he was able to get his snack.
What a fine photograph. You even got him with a peanut in his beak! That's pretty amazing. Good-looking bird, too. Down here the red-headed woodpeckers like our palm trees...rascals can make a mess in now time.
Re your question/comment about palm trees. We used to live in Scottsdale, and I don't think the palms are different there. Perhaps the Phoenix area has more of the Royal Palms. But, I'm no expert on palm trees...so take that for what's it worth. :-)

Really good shot! I like hairy and downey woodpeckers--we have both here--but they don't come to the feeders very often. I think they're more shy than the chickadees!

I wouldn't even have known this was a woodpecker! I wouldn't mind peanuts either even though it is now... raining.
Terrific shot! Your feeder looks very much like the finch feeder we have in our backyard, now covered by a heavy layer of recent snowfall. PS. Check Leif's Eagan post for this Sat. for a surprise!!

A few years ago I saw a woodpecker nesting in a tree behind my Mom's condo but since then nothing. It was so much fun to watch working up and down the tree. - Margy
There are lot's of woodpeckers in the nearby oak woodland. I've been wondering if they would come here if I put out the right food.
