Halfway through winter - officially
Today is groundhog Day and, for sure, we who live in Ontario have at least six more weeks of winter, no matter what Wiarton Willie says. (Willie is an albino groundhog, famous in these parts for predicting when spring will arrive here.)
This is what's happening nature-wise in my neck of the woods. In the largest square, the grey squirrel was chowing down on tree seeds. Moving clockwise: two crows, the tree seeds the squirrel was eating. sumac berries (NOT the poisonous kind), grass plumes, and crab apples.

I forgot it was Groundhog's Day. I'll have to check the news to find out the forcast.

I read this morning that Punxatawney Phil, the groundhog in Pennsylvania, predicted an early spring because he couldn't see his shadow. Groundhog Day with Bill Murray is one of my alltime favorite movies, so I gotta go with Phil.
Thanks for sharing your winter collection of shots. Even here in supposedly "balmy" Texas (-15 degrees F with wind last night) it feels like we will have an extended winter!

I hadn't thought about groundhog day until I went to Rambling Woods. I love the way the sumac berries look with snow. All the shots are appealing but there's something gorgeous to me about that shot.

I agree... Phil didn't see his shadow either... but I will believe it's spring when I see it.

Pretty sure Wiarton Willie did not budge an inch this year, preferring the cozy warmth in its subterranean home ;-P
Happy Groundhog Day, Hope Spring is early although I see nothing but blizzards in North America on the news.
