High Falls on the Genesee River, Rochester, New York
Yep, those ARE icicles you see hanging onto the rocks on both sides of the falls. My sister-in-law wanted to see the falls in winter...and I'm glad she did!
This waterfall is smack dab in the middle of the city. Want proof, then look here....
Train? Did you hear a train?
The flecks you may see in the photo are sleet/snow. It was bitter day but not too cold for my camera!

Brrrrr! You're lucky you and your camera didn't freeze in place! But I'm glad you didn't, too...'cause these a great photos. Wonder what that old empty building is all about?
It's got to be cold when running water freezes!
Train? What train? I didn't hear a train! Aaaaargh!
This photo certainly qualifies as a theme day "fountain" contribution, too!
hee hee... You could recycle this for Sunday Bridges!
;-D
We are in a severe heat wave in Northern NSW, day after day of 95 degrees with very opressive humidity.
What a great place Rochester looks.
Now, that's a fountain.
Choo Choo! I believe I hear a train too.
That is an amazing falls right in the town.
We could call this a fountain for theme day too. MB
I'm surprised they weren't frozen!
So fascinating to see a big waterfall in the middle of a city. I love the colorful train!
I've never been to Rochester, maybe I should pay the city a visit one day.
You certainly get around!
I love photographing waterfalls but it must be very cold there...
Terrific capture!
Cool shot of the frozen falls. It does seem to be located in a unusual place.
In New England, a lot of cities grew up beside a waterfall because the falls gave them first hydropower and later electricity. Nice shots. (And, no, I am not a private pilot . . . I just fly as a commercial passenger a lot.)
No I didn't hear the train, the falls were too loud. Beautiful picture.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful, icy waterfall with us. It may not be in the most scenic of settings, but it is still wonderful to see.
I love these photos – but I’d hate the cold.
Have a nice (warm?) day, Boonie
What an amazing setting for a waterfall. One of your visitors, Jack explained it for me. I love the icicles. Have a great week, Greetings, Jo
how did you get close enough for that picture? and it is a fantastic picture--the falls look like they come out directly from under the city.
Kaye,
I was standing on a footbridge that crosses the river. :)
A fall downtown? I have never seen anything like this!
I love the first shot!Fantastic!

Wow! I will have to put this on my list of things to see in Canada. :D
Wow that must have been a cold day. Never seen frozen waterfalls before. so special
That certainly IS unique, a river and falls right in the middle of a city! I don't remember that river, but then I was 13 when I stayed in Rochester for a week to visit a pal! :-D Great shots, both of them.
That is a neat structure. What a little cold can do, huh?!
WOW! You have a real eye for the prefect image, i wish i lived near that waterfall :(
Great capture, and one that brings back memories, too. I haven't been to Rochester since I was young but the feel of this shot took me right back.

What a beautiful falls. Love the icicles. I was imagining it in a woodsy scene, and was surprised to see city all around. Still beautiful, though.
Thanks for braving the weather, great waterfall shot.
Lovely but coooold! Nice shots.
Amazing pictures! Those icicles look quite daunting!
Cool shots - I love the train passing through!
I really admire you tenacity in taking pictures when it's that cold out --brrr -- my fingers ache just from thinking of what was involved in you getting those lovely views. Thanks!!!
These are great. I love the on with the train too!
I'm glad you went in winter!
These are great pics. Love that little cave like opening to the right of the falls - hobbits maybe. :)
The train was a super bonus - right place, right time.
still very cold? I never liked Feb in Windsor. Too much slush.
I really like both of those shots.
Nice with a waterfall in the town!
Beautiful...oh so very beautiful!!! It's cold here too...in South Texas, no less!!!

Awesome! Wish we had waterfalls too, cold we already have...
I have been trying to talk Husband into going to Niagara Falls in the winter, but he refuses. I would love to see the ice there!! The Ottawa area is pretty flat, so no falls around here...
Such a lovely scene. And I too expect that it's all frozen. I guess it's not too cold yet. ^_^ Happy Wednesday!
Watery Wednesday
These are great. Especially the city one!
How wonderful to have a waterfall right in the city. Beautiful picture.
