Male red-winged blackbird on cattail
The wetlands are alive with red-winged blackbirds. These males are lookouts for females that are building nests and sitting on eggs. The top one is very concerned and warning the neighbourhood that I am out and about.
It's not quite as crisp as I would have liked...but he wasn't sitting there very still and the light was not great. :)

This second one is a tad less worried about me and my camera...NOT! He was about to fly away.

Great shots of the Red winged Black Birds. The male sod look pretty with their splash of red on the wings.
Great captures...They always seem to fly away when I try to get a picture of them.
I bet a bunch can make a lot of noise.
Great shots!
Nicely done. I've seen a number of them here, also, but can't ever get a pic of them!
By the way, the Easter Bunny may look overdressed but the mall is cold - they set the a/c way down low!
And yes, Florida is wild. Always has been. Some people, I won't mention their names, won't even drive in Orlando without a weapon in the car! Can you believe that?
I like that first photo. He is really working it!
I agree with Farmchick - giving it all he's got!
EG you got some good shots. In my area I find it's a race between Red Winged Blackbirds and Robins of who returns first in the spring.
Breathtaking beautiful shots!
visiting from Skywatch!

I really like the singing/calling bird.I'm not sure if these birds really sing. :)
Love that coloured shoulder patch .. so distinctive.
You have captured him beautifully :)
These two shots are wonderful! These birds are fun to watch.
I always think that these guys are the first sign that spring is coming! Nice shots.
Nice shots, I love red-winged black birds, they are always the
1st bird back in the spring. And they are not shy about letting you know they are back.
I really like the 'vocal' one... Both beautiful images anyway.
such beautiful birds!
I love bird shots, spring is the most amazing season, lots of things happening, you see life everywhere!
Just gorgeous!!
Here's my critters post. Have a nice Easter celebration.
So pretty!
Please come and see my critters, thanks!
Beautiful critter!
Do you want to see how Jack Russel Terriers gets excited? Have a blessed Easter!
Wonderful that the males guard the females! Such beautiful birds!

Apparently capturing a bird with my camera takes more patience than I have. Yours are lovely, EG. And so are the birds.
So handsome!
It's not easy to capture birds! These are lovely - and that last one is very crisp and clear!
Nice shots of one of my very favorite birds. they seem to be everywhere out here and there is a pair at the pond too. they are flighty guys aren't they. MB
A new bird for me - and very handsome he is too. I find these smaller birds very difficult to photograph. They flit away so fast and they are both aware of you and wary of the camera. I always imagine them consulting their agent to see if they'll pose for you :-)
What a beautiful bird!!
Beautiful birds. I haven't seen any around yet this year. They nest by my brother's pond. Hopefully soon. Very nice shots!
Sing it, birdie!
Great photos - I've never gotten such a close shot of one, but I love watching them. There was one harassing a crow outside in the back a couple of days ago. Neither bird was giving the other any slack.
