Black-crowned night HERON
This HERON is most active at dusk and at night so I feel pretty lucky to have seen this one. I was actually photographing double-breasted cormorants nesting in some trees around the bay between Hamilton and Burlington, Ontario.
Black-crowned night HERON, crouched down and apparently concentrating on something
As you can see, it has short yellow legs. Not so easy to see in this light is the colour of its eyes: red.

I would have been dancing for joy if I had captured these shots.
I have never, ever, in my life seen a Black-crowned night Heron. Wonderful that you photographed him and wonderful for me to be able to see it here.
Beautiful shots and beautiful bird!
Well done getting this close!
Very beautiful! I've never been as fortunate as you to capture an image of a heron so close as this.
Wow! what a great shot, so close.
We don't have this black-crowned heron in Florida that I know of...it's a beauty. I like the way its legs are gripping the branches of the tree.
What a great find amongst all those cormorants! Super shots!
These photos are awesome. Both birds seem to be deep in thought.
Wonderful photos! I've never seen one like this...we only have Blue Herons here. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, that bird is very intent. I guess that's natural if eating depends on ability to concentrate.
Crouching to hide from your camera, EG! What a handsome heron!
Beautiful captures of the heron! That's interesting about it being a night heron...
Beautiful capture & beautiful bird!
XOXO Lola:)

Handsome bird!
I'm always amazed at your bird shots. These are wonderful.
A handsome fellow...or lady.
Very nice. I just started taking some shots of birds. I'm trying to figure out how to get closer (or buy a better lens for my camera). It is fun to get a good shot of them. I love the flowers in your yard--such a nice variety of kinds and colors. Mickie :)
Great shots. I hope you're doing alright in the heat wave we've read about.
Spectacular!!!! I have never seen this bird before. You got a one in a million shot. Frame it!!! MB
Congratulations, amazing post!
This bird is adorable!

What a beauty; you should be very proud of this one! It's legs do seem out-of-proportion to its body!
Wow! Amazing photos of the Heron!
Fabulous Photos of your herons! Thanks for sharing!
This is a new one for me!
I love the photo and the red eyes would be just a little scary I would think!
You seem to have a talent for getting the most amazing shots!

Great shots of the heron.
Beautiful photography! How close were you to the bird?
Interesting coloring, with the red eyes and yellow legs. These are great photos!
I sometimes see them when I am on my walks in the mornings! They are beautiful birds, but I have never gotten as close as you have!
