Eastern Pondhawk dragonfly
I took this photo this morning
Thanks, Jane, for identifying this female or young male Eastern Pondhawk! I checked my handy-dandy guide and you are CORRECT. I underlined the part about the green ones so hopefully I will SEE the information next year when I forget what it is. (Miracles do happen, sometimes.)
Side view of same dragonfly
I wanted to get a front view too but couldn't because I didn't want to walk into some poison ivy.

Greetings
I have never seen a free one like this before.Great shots.
We see these a lot at the nature sanctuary - they are my favorites. They have been scarce this spring and summer thanks to the record temperatures and drought. It is an Eastern Pondhawk. Yours is either a female or young male because as the males reach maturity they turn blue and are equally beautiful.
Dragonflys are so amazing. Their wings are so fragile yet they move with such grace.
Those are by far the best dragonfly photos I've ever seen! Send them to National Geographic. Especially now that you know the name! :-)
Spectacular! Love those gossamer wings.
Beautiful shots, EG. I find it amazing that your followers so easily identified this dragonfly. I didn't have a clue.
I haven't seen any dragonflies this color around here. Gorgeous!
those are really beautiful shots!
Beautiful shots!
A nice, vibrant green.
These are great macros of the dragonfly. I really like the green color.
Fabulous macro shots!! Love the GREEN!
A jewel! Great shots.
Good idea to steer clear of the poison ivy! Fab shots!
Gorgeous shots! I have yet to capture this type. I managed to get 3 different dragonflies yesterday. Don't know their names.
Amazingly beautiful! Although, I would probably run away screaming if I saw it. :P Kidding, there are blue dragonflies in my room almost every night. It might be the same one all over again, who knows?

Wow, what a beautiful dragonfly, wonderful photos from you. I never get to take some photos of them, they are allways to fast...or am I to slow...;)
You have impressive photos, as always. I can never get such insects to keep still for long enough to get proper photos.
PS Thank you for you kind comments and condolences. They are highly appreciated.
Gosh, E.G., you want everything! First you want our cool weather and then you want our rain. Sheesh! I think maybe you ought to relocate to central Florida! :-))
Beautiful!!! Just look at those beautiful lacy wings! Well done!!! Cathy
Amazing captures! And is it my imagination or is he giving you a 'look' in the side view? lol
I love it! I saw one the other day. No photo. Camera is on the blink... :'(
