The close of summer
Autumn will be here officially on September 23. Meanwhile nature is already looking a lot like fall.
Largest square: a double-breasted cormorant sitting on a log. Something white was floating on the water but I don't know what it was.
Moving clockwise: berries of Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia); policeman's helmet (Impatiens glandulifera) - pretty but considered a noxious weed due to it's invasive nature; aster (one of many varieties that grow here; seed heads of evening primrose (Oenothera Biennis); and berries of Solomon's seal (Smilacena racemosa).

Gee, I wish you didn't remind me. Early fall is pretty nice, but unfortunately it is followed by late fall and winter.

Lovely collage and marvelous captures as always. We didn't have much summer, but autumn is already nosing its way into Seattle. It is such a colorful and beautiful season regardless of whether I'm tired of "chilly" or not! Hope your week is going well!

It's a lovely cormorant. I think one of my photos looks like your aster.
We are fighting garlic mustard and purple loostrife and go after it whenever we see it. I have those same asters here across the pond...
