 Diva Emu

Meet three animals I recently photographed in East Gwillimbury. All were caught in UNUSUAL poses and would be mortified to know I've posted these photos on my blog. SHHH! Don't tell!

Such grace, such elegance. Diva Emu lives on a local farm, strutting her stuff among her adoring public: a herd of cows and a few chickens and ducks.

Added later: Thanks so much, Karen, for correcting me. I'm sure Diva would have been very upset with me if she knew I'd called her an ostrich.

Great Blue Heron, Esq. capturing a tasty morsel

At the time of this shooting, the usually handsome and debonair heron was far more interested in this tasty morsel than he was in my camera. What do you think his lawyer would say if I said in my defense: "You snooze, you loose?"

Loco Limousin begs: Oh come on, give me a kiss!

What can I say? Isn't Loco adorable?

Great shots, especially that of the heron. They are so patient and I've never actually seen them catch anything.

I have been known to kiss a few animals or two, and Loco would be another one for a smack or two.

Great shots, I don't know how you managed to get the one of the heron just capturing his fish. The cow shot is very funny.

These are great! I agree it's special to catch the image at just the right moment to get the action. :) Terrific. That heron appeared to be keeping her wings above the green water to keep them out of that algae. "Ewwww, I don't want to get my wings dirty, but I sure want to eat that fish!"

The ostrich reminds me of a strip-tease dancer with all that feathery plumage! Maybe she is emulating Gypsy Rose Lee!

Wonderful nature photos! The cow, well, YES! I could kiss that cow!!!

No problem with the emu identification - being Australian helps :) Looks like you had a lot of fun with these photos.

Oh, and Diva probably wouldn't have noticed anyway - they're not the brightest birds, as anyone who has ever driven along an outback road and sent a mob of them into a panic would know. They don't run away from the road - they run in a circle, on the road, before peeling off and tripping over fences.

Love the emu. We have some really rare emu's in the Clarence Valley but I always photo them in a ploughed paddock, so brown on brown is not a very interesting photo!

These are wonderful captures. You have to be quick to catch a heron eating - well done!

Your diva is very elegant indeed. No wonder that rich, classy ladies loved to wear ostrich( sorry!) feathers. The cow is very good looking. She makes a lovely Christmas ball for your Christmas tree.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Unusual, indeed. Emus are such odd creatures to being with. They always seems a bit mean to me.
