Hoar frost on shrub and grasses beside creek
The weather overnight Saturday into Sunday was perfect for creating hoar frost: cloudless skies, super-saturated air and below freezing temperature.
Closer look at hoar frost
I love how ice crystals cling to stems and seed heads.
Overview of hoar frost and reflections
Some of the creek is flowing fast enough to keep from freezing, but closer to the banks, theres ice and on top of that hoar frost.

so beautiful, and not a sight I have seen for about 50 years. i like the close up, like jewels hanging there
Nature's artwork again makes for outstanding photos. Well, the photographer had a hand in it, too!
Looks like the landscape is sprinkled with diamonds.

Few things are more lovely than hoar frost. Beautiful photos.
These are so beautiful. We've had such a mild winter that I haven't been out to take any good winter shots.
Oh my gosh, these are absolutely beautiful. Isn't nature amazing and to be able to catch it so well is awesome! Wonderful photos girl!
That really turns things into a very magical world. How cold does it have to be to get hoar frost. I have not heard of it in my area.
just gorgeous! thanks for sharing some crisp winter!
Amazing frosty beauty! Gorgeous shots.
Just beautiful. Mother Nature can be quite the artist at times.
Just lovely - it has been way too arm here for frost.

I've always liked that expression - "hoarfrost", though I'm glad we don't see it often here. Nicely captured.
Funny looking stuff! Kinda like sparklin' diamonds. You sure got a lot of it, too.
Love your pics, I appreciate that you had to get out of warm house to get them.
It is always so pretty---too bad it has to be cold to do that. LOL
Love the purple twilight in the previous post. MB
I love these pictures. Hoar frost paints the winter landscape with beauty.
Brrrrrrrrrr!
Beautiful detail on the ice crystals, isn't nature a wonderful thing? :)
wow! I love it!
I don't think that I have ever seen this kind of frost! It's wonderful.
ever so beautiful...wonderful photography!
Diamonds twinkling in every shot. Very pleasing compositions in those subtle winter shades.
Well, it does look COLD, but beautiful! Your captures are superb as always -- twinkly diamonds indeed! Hope you have a wonderful week! Stay warm!

It's so beautiful!
Wygląda to piękne, ale ja chcę już wiosny.Pozdrawiam. *** It looks beautiful, but I want to have spring :-). Yours.
Nice pics. We never get this where I live.
What a perfect winter wonderland - thank you so much for sharing.
Beautiful captures of the frost. The third photo is my favorite, a gorgeous scene. Thanks for sharing, have a great week!
"Hoar frost." Until now, I was not familiar with that name. Good to know. Stunning pics!
Your second pic is beautiful! Learned something new about frost:)
Hoar frost is one of nature's small wonders.
Great HOAR frost photos! We had hoar frost here in Eagan a few weeks ago....
The hoar frost is quite pretty to look at, I like how one poster said, they look like diamonds.
The close-up is impressive. It emphasizes the crystalline nature of newly formed ice.
Beautiful -- as others have said, your pictures have the sparkle of diamonds (only better). I too didn't really know what hoarfrost was -- (one of those cross-word puzzle type words, I kind of knew the definition but had no idea what it REALLY meant. Thank you for your pictures which explain it perfectly (almost as good as being there and I didn't have to be cold!). Thanks!
Brr, it looks so cold but very beautiful. I love the reflections.
I didn't think anything could be more beautiful than your second photo, but then I got to your last one. This is a marvelous photo sequence.
I've only had the opportunity to photograph hoarfrost once here. It's fascinating, I think!
fantastic pics!
Here in Germany spring is coming steadily!
I love the shot of that weed!
These are all just truly gorgeous.
Great pictures, the frost creates beautiful images.
Wow, what a beautiful sight.. we don't hardly ever get that type of frost around here... wish we did!
