Canada Day 2012?
I spent Canada Day (July 1st) on the grounds of the Sharon National Historic Site and Museum here in East Gwillimbury. The weather was perfect! The above photo is of local actors who this summer are presenting an interactive play about the beginnings and demise of the Children of Peace, plain folk of former Quakers.
Sharon Temple
Not really a temple, but a meeting place for the Children of Peace who believed in peace, equality and social justice .
Dress code 2012?
Many were dressed in red and white, the colours of the Canadian flag.
Proud to be Canadian
Good old-fashioned fun

Looks like a great day! Love that little guy in the hat. It's almost as big as he is. :)
Sad to say, but I didn't know of the Sharon Temple, so I googled it to get more info. Thanks! A great post!
i like that cake and the tug of war i ave not seen in many years. i love seeing people dressed in period dress, that first photo could have been taken 100 years ago, except of course in sepia with a big flash
I like the cleverly created Canadian flag cake. Celebrating our hope for a peaceful world is great. This is the first I’ve heard of the Children of Peace, however. They seem like a complicated organization and I’m delighted we are preserving those memories from the past. The tug-of-war game looks like a riot. And the tiny tot T-shirt is adorable. :)
that little t-shirt is adorable. :)

Believing in peace, equality and social justice? No wonder the weirdos died out!
CAKE!
I remember visiting Sharon temple when I was young - I grew up on a farm between Queensville & Keswick. I found your blog while looking for Girl Guide info and happened upon your May 2011 post with the mural. I'm going to follow your blog now - thanks for the memories!
It looks as if you found a great place for celebrating Canada Day. Not only does this museum look interesting, it looks like there was a lot of fun activities as well.
