A farmers' market and fields of onions and carrots
East Gwillimbury lies on the eastern edge of the Holland Marsh, an area rich in fertile organic matter that retains water and nutrients.
Workers harvesting carrots
Other crops grown in the Holland Marsh include cabbage, spinach, beets, bok choy and other Asian vegetables. Some of the veggies will be sold at the Farmers' market in the first photo, and some will be transported to towns and cities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

It all looks so lush and lovely!
It looks like it is somewhere in the tropics.
With all that moist rich soil and greenery.. Holland Marsh is a perfect name.
Oh I have to see the Holland Marsh someday I have always wanted to. B
We are lucky to have such a large growing area close to the GTA.
Those landscapes are so argentinians!
Wonderful sights to see, but I'm too lazy to want to be an active person involved in the harvest work; glad these workers don't feel that way!
Now that's one Farmer's Market that get's it's wares fresh!
Onions and carrots! I'm ready for some fresh harvest. :)
Ah, the summer harvest, great scenes. There is so much wondeful fresh produce this time of year, isn't it wonderful.
Wonderful farming shots. Love the lushness of the Marsh. Same stuff going on out this way too. Love to watch the harvesting. MB
nice to see rich harvests of any kind!
What a lovely sight, our vegetable harvest is a disaster this season.
Beautiful! I love seeing these seasonal scenes echoed across different parts of the world (or at least of this continent :). We're lucky to be near a lot of farms here, but I'm beginning to realize it's an exception and not the rule...
Fresh from the farm!
It looks rich and lush and very fertile land you are lucky to live in such a land.
The earth under Stone Creek is sand!
Very like the fens in England - rich peat soil left behind after draining marshland. Your photos show the fertility of the land and the intensive way in which it can be farmed.
I so love these shots...you live in such a beautiful area!
Looks lovely. I can only imagine the wonderful smells of the country. Well maybe minus the manure....but even that has a good smell once in awhile. Looks wonderful. Beautiful area.
Not only did you make me wish I was outside instead of at a computer, but you also made me hungry!!!
It's bunny heaven.
Bok choy? I am not taking any questions today.
I'll bet the veggies from that market are delicious.
The green just looks so beautiful to me. Pretty scenes!
Lovely pastoral scene...
Such richness in greens.
Why is it called Holland Marsh? swampy like Holland?
Sadly we don't have a farmer's market around here, and we are in the middle of farm country. We rely on our garden for fresh veggies.
Beautiful shots, EG!
Farming shots are always good in my book. Thanks for sharing these!
So lush and green. I'll bet you shop at that farmer's market.
