Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
Tourists from all over the world flock to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a lovely town on the Niagara River just a hop, skip and a jump from Niagara Falls and right across the river from New York State. My husband and I stopped by for a short visit on our way home last week from the U.S.
Sidewalks festooned with flowers
Festive and welcoming, the many containers were filled to the brim with well-maintained flowering plants. It was a pleasure to walk along the main street with a camera.
Street median
The town must have a large staff to water plants and remove dead blossoms.
Horse andcarriage
When I took this photo, there were three horse and carriages lined up ready to take tourists for a 30- or 60-minute ride through town and a short way beyond.

Looks like a nice place to walk around and check out the stores. The flowers are gorgeous! And I see a bakery. YUMMY!
Ein fröhlich bunter Ort, und so nah an dem Wasserfall, traumhaft...
Lieben Gruß

It is a beautiful setting. I visited the very same spots in your photos six years ago. My aunt lives there.
Wonderful series EG! I can smell fall in the air and the colors are so vibrant. The carriage reminds me of the ones in Central Park in NYC.
What a cute place, and I would love to go on a carriage ride.
Oh I love towns like this, so full of color and character!!
It's been years since I have been to Niagara on the Lake... It still looks just as beautiful as I remember...
This sweet tourist spot reminds me of Victoria on Vancouver Island in the West. Not sure there is a Just Christmas store there, however. But what a great idea for early birds when it comes to gift buying. I like souvenirs with a purpose.
beautiful area!
What a picturesque place that is; I'd love to make it my world for a couple of days! I bet it still looks charming even in the middle of winter!
What a beautiful town! The colors are all so wonderful...beautiful photos!!
Definitely a tourist town, and as Penelope noted, looks somewhat like Victoria, BC (which did have a Christmas store till just recently anyway).
It's such a pretty town - I bet it looks wonderful once the wintry season sets in too!
Woderful colors of those pictures!
Have a nice week

I have not managed one visit here this summer (running out of money for the Shaw!) and usually I am down several times during the theatre season.
I like all of the beautiful flowers.
I was down to visit friends who live in the countryside just outside of town a week ago but didn't make it into town. Your pics make me wish that I had.
Lovely shots. I especially like the colours and composition of the first one. We're in Georgetown but haven't been down to visit this quaint little village for several years. It's such a fun place to poke around and shop for special gifts.

Used to spend a lot of time there!! Great tour. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
What a pretty town and I can understand why tourists would flock there. Perfect for taking a ride in one of those lovely carriages.
Hoping you are enjoying a wonderful week.

What a lovely, delightful place, EG!! I love your captures and I would so like to visit there!! Thanks for sharing the visit! Your photos are the next best thing to being there myself!! Have a great week!
Such fun, flowers and plants are a great way to get people feeling good about where they are. Expensive but worth it.
It the photos are anything to go by, it felt wonderful when these photos were taken.
A colourful stop-over.
A picturesque little place. Looks like a fun visit.
What a lovely tourist enclave!

I wish I could step into these photos, especially that Christmas shop!
=)
Nice photos, EG, especially the first two. It seems that more places are decorating with big and colorful flowers and plants, a development that I wholeheartedly favor. But, it does make my own floral efforts look pretty lame.
That street median is beautiful. I'd love to have something like that here. They did a great job with the arrangments in the pot. And who doesn't like a Christmas store in a scenic place?:)
i love the "small town" atmosphere. the flowers and light are beautiful. have you tried the horse-drawn carriage?:p
Carriage rides a popular activity in most tourists places. Great captures.
Touristically perfect and a Christmas shop too!
What a charming town! And is that a Christmas shop I see - already?
What a pretty welcoming town.
The moment I saw the Christmas Shop, I knew it was Niagara-on-the-Lake. One of my favourite places in Ontario. Thank you for this post.
what a pleasant street. I especially love the bright colors onthe Christmas store in the first photo.
We've been there. It is a beautiful place.
