Huntsville and Lake of Bays Railway train station
T is for TRAIN TRACKS
This narrow gauge railway (42 inches) is now a museum with 3/4-mile long track in Huntsville Memorial Park, the tracks following the Muskoka River to where the river empties into Fairy Lake. Beside the station in the photo above, you can see a coach that has seats with flippable backs so passengers can always be seated looking forward.
Looking back down the tracks
The engine - the Portage Flyer - is a remnant of the the "smallest commercial railway in the world," which carried freight such as lumber and tanbark (for tanning hides). Unfortunately the engine was in its shed when I was there a few days ago.The Potage Flyer runs on steam, which I would have loved to have seen be fired up, travel the tracks...
Walking further down the tracks
along the scenic Muskoka River to...
The end of the tracks - Fairy Lake Station
just beyond the Fairy Lake Station where the locomotive is turned on a manually operated turntable so it can head back to the station.

Look at those autumn leaves. Can't wait for them to turn here - but it will be another three to four weeks they say.
Wow! Thanks to you Camera Girl and your wonder photos I now have another place I want to visit.
Fairy Lake? Just the name makes me want to visit. The train ride would be a bonus.

I can see you're turning now, can't wait to see more color there. I love visiting train museums, there's one in Minnesota near my daughters home that we like to visit.
Very nice. I have always liked railroads. When we were kids we walked a railroad every school day. Of course I loved to hear the train coming so we could grab some rocks and blast the coal cars. :)
Lovely shots! Loved the curved one the most.
Looks like a fall day in New Hampshire or Maine. Riding the rails in autumn.
Lovely views to be seen from the train!
these colors are so beautiful.
such beautiful images
Such beautiful scenery, those fall colours are the best.
What a set of great photos! Makes me want to go back to Huntsville, after many years, to see what I missed.
What a picturesque place to take a ride on a steam powered train. You'll have to go back and take a ride.
It's a beautiful area. Cute station too.
Another thing I didn't know about! And such a setting.
I like any kind of trains!
Oh my that is such a lovely spot. It is so quaint and I love the walk along the train tracks.
Fairy Lake Station is a wonderful name. Thanks for sharing this little place of magic with us. :)
Oh I love old tracks and trains - hope you get a chance to spot the train in action next time! Glimpsing your pretty scenery, I wish our trees would turn color already:)
How romantic! I love the idea of the seats flipping!
This looks like a fun place to visit and a beautiful place to ride the train. Good photos!

fun photos of 'T" for train tracks ~ lovely autumn colors! ~ (A Creative Harbor)
so charming -- a number of railbeds (I read) have been converted to bike paths. yours looks quite lovely.
What a delightful series of shots. That first shot just begs one to "get a ticket to ride" - I'd love to be a passenger! Thanks for sharing.
Your pics tell a story and I enjoy going on the journey everyday with your work. Really cool. These tracks remind me of a scene from Hachi.
so beautiful...wonderful colors...love this time of year...well I love every season really.
Lovely view from the tracks!
My grandchildren would love this!
Hope you can go back and see the train. We rode a steam engine train last fall - really cool.
I wish I had the time and money to visit your world...I sure love the stuff you show. The first photo here is wonderful!
