Snowy Owl/Wild Bird

Male snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus) atop a barn roof

There's no surprise how this guy got his name, is there? He's as white as snow. He's currently visiting a central Ontario field for the winter and in the spring will return to the Arctic to raise a family.

Snowy owl about to take off

He allowed me to get quite close before flapping his wings to take off for another roof close by.
I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

Two great photos Camera Girl. I'm still waiting to to see an owl in my neighbourhood. I know there here, I just can't find them.

Have never seen an owl in the wild; I must be doing something wrong! This is an amazing looking animal. In a way, he reminds me of my grandfather.

Wow! I guess there's no chance that I'll ever see one of these here in Texas! That beautiful blue sky is not much of a camouflage for him.

What fabulous shots against that sky! This is the only type of owl I have seen in the wild - one very cold winter and he was right in the middle of the city in a park!

There were quite a few that flew through Nebraska in fall and were killed by traffic, etc... Not sure how they got down this far south.

Magnificent bird.
