Attending country fairs can be a fun adventure in comparing the old and new. Old-fashioned ways are charming but modern ones are much easier.

I bet the butter tasted wonderful fresh but the maker was probably to tired to eat any right away.

Oh I just LOVE that old printer. My brother uses them in his work he says there is nothing like the old ones for printmaking. Great shots. B
Beautiful and interesting; I love old printers...I had the opportunity to learn how to use one whilst I was in high school (many moons ago) and the satisfaction I took from it sticks with me even now.
Now that butter churn is a whole lot more sophisticated than the hand churn my grandmothers used. They would have been fascinated by this one!

when i got to the butter churn i said ooohh out loud, i really did. and the old fashioned printer, did you mean the man or the machine. LOL
What a great look back. I remember having home churned butter and the store stuff is no where near as good.

I have a friend who has a printing press just like that one in his basement!
Times have changed!
Those old implements at least gave people the opportunity to exercise. We buy butter in tubs, already made, and are none the healthier for it. Anyway, enjoyed viewing the old relics! My uncle had his own printing business - I should show him that old printer.
Love this kind of stuff! All that work churning the butter is probably why they COULD eat it without gaining weight like I do!
Ooh, tried churning butter once and it was durn hard work!:) I'm sure it tastes infinitely better than the store bought stuff though.
Times have changed for the better in some areas, that's for sure! I remember my mother churning butter with a small hand-churn. I helped out some, it was very tiresome!

I love old equipment and machinery. One of my neighbors has a whole bunch of old farm equipment outside his house. I love to photograph it in different light at different angles.

love these reminders of what our grandparents knew. the printing press, especially, is fascinating. never would be able to master reading type backward.
I've seen old-fashioned butter churns, but none like this! Loved your post - wonderful photography, as always!
When I was growing up we churned butter on a slightly more modern version of this churn. Ice cream made the old fashioned way was definitely better.
I have a very old friend whose husband had to churn butter every day when he was a child. He hates the stuff!
Also, another friend has a set of alphabet printing dies that probably could have been used with that press. We used them for stamping words into clay.
Looking at the old stuff can be fun, but so often the newer things are better made and more reliable. Remember flat tires? When is the last time you had one?
I would love to have the Printing Press.

I love seeing your antiques today, Ms. EG TG. Last thursday we saw a new press like that in the Bible Museum at the college here. It was all painted nicely, I would rather it had been an old one like yours.

So much fun! I remember butter churns - my grandmother had one just inside the back door on her farm. Nothing as good as freshly-churned butter on freshly baked bread hot out of the oven with homemade strawberry jam!
That press looks so much like the Guttenberg. Especially compared with what we use today.
How fun! A real step back in time. My first newspaper (in high school) was published with a press much like the one you show. My, how times have changed...
old-fashioned is better for decor, but modern is definitely far more useful!
