Male pine grosbeak (Pinicola enucleator)
Isn't the male stunning?
Pine grosbeaks are large finches that eat mostly buds, fruits and seeds of trees such as ash apple, spruce, pine and mountain ash. However they supplement their young's diet with spiders and insects.
Female pine grosbeak
The females is less colourful but still very attractive, don't you think?

I have never seen a pine grosbeak before. They are beautiful! I'm going to have to make a visit to your neck of the woods.
Fabulous photos! They are delightful birds and that male has the most striking color.
Such beautiful birds! Great shots!

They are very complementary in their colors.
We have some kind of grosbeak here but it's all brown. I want some of yours!
They make a handsome couple. He would be quite easy to spot I would think. Your bird photos always delight me.
Darla
Oh he is a handsome fellow!!
They add a lively splash of color to bland winter days.
Truly awesome snaps of these creatures. You must have some great birds around your area.
Both are gorgeous, but I think the red male is more beautiful!
Léia

They really are both equally gorgeous. In addition to their colors, the wing bars are so pretty!
Though they are both beautiful birds (that I've never seen here), that male has amazing colour! If only the male of our species had to get all gussied up:)
Wow - they are both gorgeous! Great shots, EG!
Wow! Beautiful shots! The male reminds me of our purple finches or house finches, and the female reminds me of our gold finches.

What a pair! Each is stunning in his or her own way.
Wow, these are gorgeous photos of the Pine Grosbeaks. I would love to see them in person. Can you send me some, please? Have a happy day!
Both the male and female are quite pretty! Loved your shots.
Great close-ups with such beautiful detail.
I actually think the female is more attractive then the male. I love her colors. But both look good. I´m not sure I´ve seen them before. Thanks for sharing. :)
Beautiful photos. I haven't seen many of them around our house this winter. I like your post yesterday with the collage of winter birds too.
Now, this is an entirely new bird that I have never laid eyes on, till now. Their markings are lovely. Gorgeous birds. Thanks for the treat of looking at them.
I love those red feathers!
What amazing colors.
Stunning captures EG. I think the female is beautiful in her own way.
The male is stunning - but the females not bad either - is this a garden bird for you?
Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW
