Eastern Phoebe (Sayornis phoebe)
Is that dental floss this phoebe has in it's mouth? Gotta love what birds find to build their nests with!
Another phoebe with a mouthful!
Apparently some phoebes have been back in Ontario for a month already so they must be fairly hardy songbirds. They are flycatchers so I've been wondering where they have been finding flies.
I LOVE the phoebe's song in spring and summer. As you can see here, they are comfortable about perching on fences. This phoebe was waiting for me to leave so it could work on its nest
Secret nesting spot?
Don't worry little Phoebe. I'll never tell where your nest is.
I am joining Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

so sweet and pretty. could you send me a couple of these little sweeties? we have an overabundance of flies...
It's that time of year when they find a mate, build a nest and start a family.
PS: In my neighbourhood there's hundreds of little black flies. They look something like a mosquito but smaller. I have seen the robins eating them.
I do think that is dental floss amazing how that beautiful bird can find that. I love there song. Great shots. B
It's so nice to see what they capture. They really are little darlings.
I have seen then at Shaw's Maple Syrup bush in April. They are very early returnee. Lovely shots.

Great photos of the phoebe. It's always fun to watch when the birds start building their nests.
Around here, I've seen long hairs from our horses' tails in robin and swallow nests.
The phoebe is one of my favorite birds. They are just so cute! I love how you captured these at work with their building materials. :)
I've never heard of a Phoebe. A very appealing little bird, working on its nest. Thanks for introducing me.

What lovely little birds! The nests around my farm are well lined with soft goose feathers and fur from the goats. :-)

Good shots when you can catch the bird "in the act". Is that phoebe nesting in a building?
Amazing photos!! I used to throw the lint from the dryer outside for the birds to use in their nests.
So sweet! Gotta get ready for babies!

Cute little builder.
Sweet critter, making good use of our waste. Nice.
Nice looking bird - and I think their name sounds so much better than "flycatcher'!

Wow! I love that first pic!
I just got my feeders up again this year after a year of having no safe place (from wildlife and domestic cats) to hang them. So I'm enjoying your wonderful bird shots and hope I get some soon!
Cute little birds.
Great and awesome! =) It's not easy to photograph small birds moving that fast, but you made it! :) nice to see how they collect materials for their nests! :)
