Male Cardinal/Birding

 Male northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis)
quietly hiding in a leafless tree

But really, how can a bright red bird hide this time of year? These guys don't wear drab even in winter.

I am linking with I'd Rather B Birdin'   HERE.

Such a beautiful red!

Really and truly one of the more beautiful birds found in Canada. Even the female who is not as brilliant still looks beautiful.

I am going to miss how great their red feathers stand out against the browns and grays of winter. They do make for a striking photo. This is beautiful.

Another A plus for you. We have a cardinal family in the trees and bushes by our house but I'll be darned if I can get a decent photo of either one!

This may be a repeat...I love these photos because they are so bright and clear. We have cardinals that regularly visit our yard and they delight me. Our son Karl claims them as his own.

Beautiful red!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

Such handsome, up close shots of the cardinal. We have them as regular visitors now (and I suspect it is in part because every few days I do fill my bird feeder).

They certainly don't have a great place to hide. I saw a huge spot of bright red yesterday while I was birding. It was WAY up high in a very old, tall tree. Zooming in with my 400mm I discovered it was the red breast of a robin. LOL. For some reason I never thought robins perched that high in trees. I always see them on the ground or in the very least, in a moment of fear, on a low branch!

So beautiful and appropriately called. With this red attire he looks so cardinal that he should have attended the recent conclave ;-)

Lucky you! Great shots! We west coasters don't get to see these beauties. I had to go down to Arizona in the early spring to finally see one. It was memorable.

He says to the world, "I'm here, I'm bright red, and there's not a thing you can do about it!" (It's all about attitude!) :-)

I sometimes think they don't like being born with the red feathers because they hang out inside bushes and reeds most of the time. Once and awhile they'll sit perfect on a branch. Wonderful shots:)

I am in love with cardinals.
It is very rare to see one in our region, but they were abundant during our recent trip to Texas.. and they made me so happy!
