Cider Mill/Our World

Side view of Lapp's Cider Mill, Markham

I like old barns. They have so much character. One day on our way to a different destination, my husband pulled over so I could check this worn wooden building out. It was close to the road and easy to photograph.

 Sign out front

Can you read this old sign? Not me, either.

 Heritage site
But also out front was this plaque.

 Front Window

And this window. Not a whole lot more for a building that has been declared a heritage site. So I "Googled" it and  now I'm puzzled as to why a heritage site...

Lightening rod atop dormer

has so little information about it and why all the old machinery that WAS inside has been purchased by the Markham Museum and is now inside another cider mill a few miles north of where this one is.

So if this building not good enough to house its own equipment, why is it still a heritage site?  Just askin'!  It's still a great old place to photograph, though.

Still a great looking old building, maybe someone could put a hard cider pub in it!

Neat old building- probably moved all the equipment for fear of theft.

You find the best things when out and about. I like the red tone of the building. Maybe calling it a heritage sight means someone will do something with it in the future.

There are just no good answers to some questions. Love this old building, though; quite a find and your photos are excellent!

Glad you captured these pictures before something happens to the building!

EG, I'll bet every one of your viewers would also brake to take photos of this lovely old barn.

Puzzling for sure...but glad it is there and that you photographed it. Now it will live on...and on....and on.

That scattered sign in the front reminds me of a messed up scrabble board. Looks like funding might be the problem for restoring or, at the very least, giving this building back its pride!

Oh, wow! I love this old building and everything about it!

If it's a heritage site why hasn't it been better preserved? Lots of questions on this one, aren't there?

It sure is a good place to photograph. I especially liked the reflected sky in the window.

Looks like an interesting building that should be preserved!! Boom & Gary of the vermilon River, Canada.

I've never heard of a cider mill before. Now I'm trying to think what we would call a place that makes cider. Brain dead again!

It is a great old building and perfect place for taking photos. The red color does remind me of a barn. Is it a barn or mill? Great post, thanks for sharing. Have a happy week!

A lovely old barn indeed! I always wish they could talk and share their history/their story. I do hope they preserve it! Terrific captures for the day, EG! Have a good week!

Very strange that it is a heritage site! Cool building though.

looks like it could easily be restored if they want to.

Aren't hubbies wonderful to pull over when we see something? I'm glad he did so that you could share this interesting place with us.

A charming series of captures. I so like the use of red paint on the structure. The best translation I can make is "Lapp Bros. Cider & Vinegar" but haven't a clue with the remaining letters. Thanks for sharing.

What a great, rustic place.

These pictures send my imagination! What a place. This reminds me of a few places near home in CT where the sites are recognized as historically valuable, but nobody wants to pay to get it taken care of. Peeking through the windows is like traveling through time.

Great old barn, but it is odd that it is marked as a heritage site.

Well I see LAPP and CIDER and VINEGAR on the sign but that is all. I do love old mills. I must find some. Really good shots. MB

The sign is a big puzzle, I love this barn. There seems to be little rhyme or reason as to why buildings are designated as such

Love mills and old buildings

It is strange that they would remove the machinery from a heritage site. I wonder if the upkeep was just too much, but the heritage designation just hasn't been removed. Great pictures!

Of course.
