Steam heritage railway, Tottenham
Every weekend between Victoria Day and the weekend after Canadian Thanksgiving, tourists and train enthusiasts can take a ride on Canada's oldest operating steam locomotive -- a 6.4 kilometre (4 mile) scenic ride from Tottenham to Beeton. Engine #136 above helped develop Canada's transcontinental railroad in the 1880s. It runs on coal. Barely seen behind the locomotive in this photo, the 1920-era coaches used for the excursions. (Sadly, when I was there taking photos there was very little space between the trains on the tracks to get a decent photo of the coaches.)

So, instead I took photos of the old boxcars that remain stationary on separate tracks.

This year on weekends from December 7th and 22nd you can travel the Santa Claus Express.

Don't you just love old Choo choo-s. I do. In Snoqualmie Wa. there is a train museum and train graveyard and you can ride on a train similar to yours. Been there many time but never rode the train. I don't know why. MB

we have a Santa Express here, the whole month of Dec and i wish they would do an adult only since i would like to ride it but not with a crowd so kids. nice old caboose
love it. But it reminds me that I missed a similar event where I live. To bad. :(

I love trains. These are great shots.
Nothing like the sound of a steam train. My mother (89)feels no nostalgia for the old trains though, saying they were very dirty and smelly. She's all for modern rail.
I love steam locomotives. Your photos captured this one very well; really like the smoke billowing out. There's a steam locomotive that runs out of Durango, Colorado. Really neat to see it operate.

My parents have taken that train once or twice. I've never been on it.
Up here there's a steam train that'll be back in service next year after some track damage washed out this year. Goes up the Gatineau River valley...

Steam was around when I was kid. My mother used to take me by train from Toronto to Port Elgin for summer vacation.

Traveling on those trains must be like steping back in time! What a thrill!

There's something a little bit magic about steam trains..and I'm not sure why but I love that word..caboose :))

When I was a kid, there was a steam train that ran once a summer from Knoxville, TN, up to Cumberland Gap...it was always so exciting to see it pass.
