American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) - female
The kestrel, perched on a thin branch on a small tree, was hunting and hardly seemed to notice me at first.
Another view of same kestrel
Then it turned its head and seemed to say with its stare "it's either I move or you do, CameraGirl!" When I stayed put, it flew away.

If this gal could see her photo she would be proud.
I love the angle of her head in that second image!!!
Astonishing images of the kestrel. Thanks for visiting my blog & posting your comment. Actually Boise is just a small as you can see from the pictures.
Beautiful shots Camera girl Hug B
A real beauty captured well by a nosy, intrusive camera girl :>)
What a beautiful bird!
I really like the kestrel family
What wonderfully clear photos.

Wow! Amazing close-ups!
Great shots of this beautiful bird!
Hi! Nice captures. Good shutter chance! Thanks for sharing. Wishing you a wonderful week.
Beautiful portraits of this fine-looking bird! A friend of mine living on acreage north of Ocala tells me he has a hawk on his property that has become quite friendly. He can walk up close and the hawk does not move. I think he's sizing up my friend to see if he was tasty enough!
Any mice or small mammals out looking for dinner better watch out!
Outstanding shots!
It is just amazing his weight doesn't break down such a thin little branch☺
Great macros on him.
I'm glad he hung around long enough for your to get these photos. Both portraits are marvelous.
Your kestrel photos are most definitely picture post card perfect!!
I love these beautiful little hawks. I won't be fooled by her small size though, she strikes fear into sparrows everywhere.
Wow - these are great shots! Nice job!
Brilliant capture EG.
Ohhh, terrific captures EG. I've never seen a Kestrel.
She looks rather inquisitive.
Wow. Did you use a telephoto and a tripod ? Or was he just that friendly ? Excellent work !
I was so in love with them when I was a child - but we don't have them in the wild in Germany anymore. Great shots that brought back lots of memories!
You stayed put and probably saved a few songbirds lives! They're beautiful little raptors, but one used to love hanging out around our bird feeders (when we lived in Oregon) and I always felt as if I were providing it a cafeteria.
She is beautiful. I worked with a pair of Kestrels when I volunteered at the Rehab Facility. Of the two, the little girl was the more feisty and she had personality that kept us all in stitches. I am actually caring for a male Kestral now and will probably be posting pictures. Because of the cold weather the NIRC birds have all been brought inside for their protection and I am lucky enough to be able to take care of two of them. Love this post ...

Kestrels are extremely difficult to photograph. You did a beautiful job on the short time you had with him.
Marvelous images of the Kestrel!
What a beautiful picture !
She is giving you the evil eye, EG!
