Cooper's hawk (Accipiter cooperii)
I was out looking for snow buntings and snowy owls when I spotted this hawk sitting atop...
Giving me the evil eye
storage crates in front of barns in the Holland Marsh, an area north of Toronto famous for growing vegetables such as onions and carrots. I suspect this hawk was searching for pigeons, not that hard to find but maybe hard to sneak up on if you're a hungry Cooper's hawk.

He is a handsome youngster. The winters are probably hard for him since it is a new experience hunting in the cold. He is doing his best to stay warm ... hope he finds food. Our lady Coopers Hawk (who has red eyes this year ... she made it to adulthood) Snatched a Starling in my yard yesterday. I am ambivalent, but was glad she got food to get her through another very cold day.

That's a beautiful hawk well photographed. You've got a good eye and a fast trigger finger.
I had a smallish hawk sitting on my backyard fence 2x recently...but I couldn't get a good glimpse as to what he was. From the coloring I think it might have been this kind. He was thinking to get one of my small birds, I imagine. :(

HI EG Great shot of the Hawk but keep looking for the Snow Buntings because I would love to see them. We have not seen them here this year yet in Northern Ireland
