Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis)
One of my favourite visitors! Truly they are sweet birds to have visit feeders, especially since they clean up after so many of their avian relatives - eating the seeds rejected by their cousins.
Dark-eyed juncos live in southern Ontario year-round, but I see them mostly in winter hopping about underneath feeders or flying up to a feeder perch to join various other sparrows - yes, they are sparrows.
Swallowing a mouthful
During the breeding season, they live in coniferous or mixed coniferous woods. I think a few are spending the winter in several of our spruce trees.

This little creature looks well fed or warm if fluffing out its feathers. I didn't realize how neat and tidy they are. . .very welcome guests!
Oh, I love the cute little snowbirds! But they really keep me busy filling the feeders with their healthy appetites!
This little one looks quite distinctive.

It looks like he posed just for you! Nice shots!
What a cute little bird! Love your second shot where you got him with his mouth open.
I never considered the benefit they provide but you're right, they do clean up after others. Little busboys they are.

Cute little birds.
Sweet little birds.
I loved juncos when we lived in Oregon. Don't see them here. Adorable portraits .
I was so excited to see the juncos yesterday in the sleet. Several were on the ground but I couldn't get any decent shots due to poor light. These are really fantastic captures!
I really like them too, but didn't know they were sparrows, EG!
Great shots of the bird.
Cute birds.
Great shots of the juncos. I see them mainly in the winter when I put out seeds during extra cold spells.
That's one I've never heard of! Cute little guy.
=)
I too like the Dark-eyed Juncos. I see a few around in winter but their numbers increase in early spring.
They are just so cute!
Pretty bird, excellent captures. The sunlight enhances their character. Love the shot you managed to get with the seed in the mouth like that.
Now, the birds need us very much, because of the snow. I like the sparrows. Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing and Sunday greetings, Wieczora (◔‿◔) | my photoblog
Lovely photos, a great contribution to the Bird-theme!

Did not know they were a type of sparrow. Very interesting. I do enjoy watching them hop all over the ground after those reject seeds.
Lovely images. I recall seeing one in CostaRica. :)
Great photos of this bird!
