Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum) out on a limb
Brown thrashers don't usually spend their winters this far north...and what a crazy winter to stay here!
"Hiding" in some brush
This bird had discovered a bird feeder near a pile of downed limbs, which it must have felt would be a safe enough place to scurry to in case of danger.
Out in the open
The Brown Thrasher looks angry here but I think I simply caught it swallowing a seed.
I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

That's probably the expression I would have if I swallowed a seed. :-)
cute little bird !
Probably a pumpkin seed from the way it looks!
Great photos of this little Brown Thrasher.
His belly reminds me of a Coopers Hawk for some reason. Nice shots!
He looks like he is managing his way through the winter quite well.
Beautiful coloring and markings -- great find!
SUPERB captures!!!
he is so cute and doesn't seem to mind the fact he is standing on ICE
What a beautiful, brown scamp with lemon eye .... I love birds! Great pictures.
I'm amazed at how you get such great photos of these things! Super sharp and detailed. Maybe it's so cold it can't move?
I love the markings down its breast - very special to see an uncommon bird in your neck of woods this time of year, especially this crazy winter!
gorgeous birds and great shots! miss these birds since i left wisconsin.
great find, beautiful bird shots!
have a lovely day~
:))
What a good looking guy!! I love the colours!!
I love brown thrashers and you got some great shots. I was just watching them on my deck. We are supposed to have snow this afternoon and tomorrow followed by freezing rain so I've been putting out a lot of extra bird food and the brown thrashers have been jumping in on the action.
Excellent photos! What a cute little guy.
Terrific captures EG! I hope he makes it through the winter. We had a Carolina wren at the feeders every day until the "Polar Vortex" set in. I haven't seen it since Jan 1st :(
Fantastic shots of this guy. He might be wishing that he had flown south for the winter.
handsome bird, striking looking beak its got
Tweet, tweet little cutie!
Such wonderful shots... up close and personal !
Such crisp shots of a pretty little bird.
What a beautiful bird. It supposed to be present here also, but I don't remember seeing it. Or maybe when I saw it, I thought it was a sparrow.
Beautiful pictures taken.
Great photos of this little bird!
He's really beautiful, and I love that beak!
Those are great shots. He sure has a big beak for a little bird. Good eater I guess. MB
A beautiful bird. Those browns are very pretty.
Brown Thrashers are beautiful. great capture.
Beautiful bird and so original

Very nicely caught may it survive the winter with your help.
I've never seen one here in winter, EG! It's a cutie.
HI Eg Lovely bird. He has a very small eye yet quite a long beak for the size of him.
I love the open beak one!
More great photos; you have a real talent for photographing the birds!
Superb shots! Glad he didn't migrate so you could get these images.
Looks like it has a lot to say....I see these occasionaly out in the area right before we get into the strip pits.
Cool sighting of the Brown Thrasher. We usually see them here in the summer. Great shots!
Lovely colors and markings!
Hi! Nice captures. You are very a good bird photographer. Thanks for sharing.
These are marvelous photos of the Brown Thrasher. I'm glad you spotted him.
What a beak!
Great shot of the brown thrasher,
Oh my goodness, these are wonderful images!
Handsome little fellow.
The Brown Thrasher is a beautiful bird with a lovely song.
Do you think? I could almost tell this little guy was yelling someone away from the seeds it was about to get. Wonderful picture you were able to capture. I have had an unusual Northern Flicker that isn't natural to our parts with a mate come two years now. It is great to see the pair.
What a beauty!
Oh I love this little bird EG, you are brilliant with the bird shots..
These are stunning shots of the Brown Thrasher, great against the snow.
All the best Gordon.
What an amazing bird and fantastic captures.
Great shots of a very pretty bird.
Great captures. I enjoy listening to them in the summer.
Great photos, I like his expression in the first one with his brow furrowed, I would be grumpy standing on snow with my bare feet too.
Look at that chest!
