Birders on pier on the Hamilton side of the Burlington Canal
This pier, which juts out into Lake Ontario, is not really a street, but definitely an area with plenty of foot traffic. Birders love the canal on the left as it's a favourite wintering spot for various ducks.

I confess that I didn't use my DSLR for this project but chose to use my much smaller - some might suggest "sneakier" - point and shoot that has a zoom lens that reaches distances much further than most people suspect.

I need to get a good little stealth camera! Just hard to choose...I want one that is better than the P&S we currently have...you snap a pic and it takes forever for it to complete the shot.

The guy in the third shot doesn't want anyone to see him but I think the camera gives him away! Excellent shots!!

I like these 'street' scenes on the pier. A great spot to watch people and birds. How do people carry those big lenses around? I find my lens is heavy enough for my arthritic thumb joints. Great shots CG.

Can't really see what lens the guy has but I would think you'd be talking around $10,000 or so for a lens like that. Bigger and more expensive ones are available!

you fit right in since there were many photographers out there... i want the camera lens the camouflage guy has.
i always feel uncomfortable aiming my camera at people, that is why you rarely see them on my blog....
This is a great collection of shots! A pier offers a great opportunity for people watching and telling stories with your photos. And most photographers can't grumble too loudly about their photos being taken since they are taking photos, LOL. I really like the composition perspective of each of these because of the strong diagonal lines. And the snow offers a nice contrast with the sky and water.
It looks like there are several bird photographers there, and if they are serious about that specialty, they generally use a 400mm lens at a minimum. On the last photo, I can see one fellow in the background that has an even bigger lens than the one in the foreground. It is really difficult to hand hold these monsters without significant camera shake, so they are best used on a tripod. Unfortunately, it is difficult to track a bird's flight with a tripod set up.
You were smart to use your point and shoot in this case because it is much easier to be discreet!
Lots of bundled up photogs out on that beautiful pier. I was amazed that their are no railings. All of our piers have railings. Sure wouldn't want to fall into that water!
Wowee look at all those cameras specially the last guy. I'd love to have one with such a lens but then again I wouldn't want to be too encumbered.

Lots of camo out on the pier and there you were hiding in plain sight. The last shot tells the story for sure and most of the commentators agree, well done.

These photos are take me to a different world! Being landlocked in the mountains of Virginia, photos of vast expanses of water are my ticket to a mini vacation at my computer. Nice job photographing an unusual "street scene" where so many other folks are taking photos, too!
I've enjoyed your pics of an unusual place - the snow cover makes it very different and I spy some cute ducks! The guys with the monster lenses I don't envy…….very hard to control. I was almost knocked out of a Zodiac boat on an expedition to The Kimberly in Western Australia when a fellow traveler turn abruptly with such a lens……….all to capture a huge croc of course!!!

Excellent sneaking! Some of those birders are pretty serious about their hobby.
