Red Wings

Male Red-winged Blackbird

The red wings are back and ravaging my bird feeders. I wish they knew better how to share with other birds! The announce they are coming in to the feeders from far away, scaring everyone else away.

 Female last fall

I am linking with Saturday Critters HERE.

I rarely see them around home. They are abundant at nearby lakes though, and I love to spot the flash of red in the reeds. Great shots!

Lovely.
I think the hummingbird also does the same thing. They don't allow other birds near the bird feeder.

Beautiful markings on that male bird!

They are ferocious when it comes to defending their nest. Good shots!

They are very striking, aren't they?!!! I used to see them all the time when I lived on Galveston Island. Living in central Houston, I don't see them at all. I miss them! Happy Critter Day!

The female certainly looks different from the male. Her markings are pretty.

We have tons of them here too. They seem to share quite well with the other birds though. That's a terrific shot of the female, I'm not seeing too many of them.

We don't have red winged black birds here in the city, but just saw one - only one - on a country drive. We used to see them by the thousands.

Nice images.

Hi EG That blackbird shot on that pole is really lovely. If you didn't put food out for them you would probably not get these great shots!

I see them along the railway tracks near us but hear them from far away!

Wonderful shots of these beautiful birds! I have some living down by the pond, but I can't seem to get close enough for a really good shot like yours. Maybe some day!

We are having the same problem the cowbirds, another member of the blackbird family. Pesky critters! Stealing food from our cardinals!

That first shot is awesome.

And yet they look so innocent. They should learn to share.

I like these birds, but they never like me. I run into them all the time by our garden, which is next to Bro O's pond. They scold me when I get too close.
