Muskie by Norman Knott
In one hallway on the ground floor of Southlake Hospital's east wing, there's a collection of paintings by First Nation artist Norman Knott.
Note: I see the flash on my point and shoot has left a bright spot on the glass in front of the painting. Sorry!
Explanation on the wall near the painting: "Painted in 1978, 'Muskie' represents Norman's finest example of the interdependence of all living things. Man depends on fish for food; fish depends on water for it's home and food. Although he has painted half a fish, we have the illusion of viewing a whole fish in action. Of the two images of man, the second image is to remind us that man also depends on water as much of our bodies consist of water."

No worries about the flash... I too love to photograph paintings in public buildings. This one is particularly impressive. The message within is powerful. So many of us are drawn to water - its a natural pull :D)

It's stunning both in concept and colors. I love the way the fish is tied to the water and how both flow together. And I appreciate the explanation.
I love that hospitals have begun showcasing artwork. It helps when you have to spend time there.
