White Christmas?

Until a few days ago, it looked like we might have a white Christmas this year.

A local farm on a sunny day

We'd had a snowfall deep enough to shovel but since then much of the snow has melted away. And now the weather forecasters are calling for rain. The good news is no one has to shovel rain. I'm just hoping it doesn't turn out to be freeing rain!

Hairy woodpecker eating seeds out of dad's hand

Yesterday a  dad and his son were feeding chickadees when a hairy woodpecker decided it was brave enough to eat out of dad's hand too!

No chance of a white Christmas here this year we are told. Not much chance of our timid and wary Woodies behaving like that either!

Merry Christmas to you.

I also prefer snow rather than freezing rain. I still have memories of last years storm.

What an amazing shot to capture with the father and son. I never thought a Woodpecker would have been brave enough to come to a hand. Have a good Sunday and a wonderful Christmas week.

You have a lot of snow. (But soon we have also much snow)
Your tree is so very beautiful in white.

Pretty snowy scenes! But, I am glad it will not be a white Christmas here. I love the woodpecker shot, cute little boy! Happy Sunday!

Beautiful pictures. Sounds like your weather is much like ours. We do have enough snow to cover most of the ground, but it is -2 now and will likely get milder as the sun comes up. I don't like that freezing rain and the resulting ice.

I don't think that we are going to have a white Christmas and that is fine with me. I'll take anything over freezing rain!!!

I love your barn. Barns around here are few and far between.

All beautiful but that last picture is amazing!

Freezing rain is about as bad as weather can get. I hope you get a white Christmas instead. The picture of the woodpecker eating from Dad's hand is precious.

What a woodpecker shot!

We've got snow on the ground, and for now it seems too cool to melt.

The tree is just about perfect! And I love the bird eating out of the man's hand. How did you do that?

You're a very smart person to stay home these days!

Beautiful snowy pictures! We are getting a "pineapple express" rainstorm this weekend. No white Christmas for us!

The snow looks like a light dusting of icing sugar but I am sure it is not nearly as sweet, and much colder than it appears to be in the photos. :)

That is an amazing woodpecker - and a smart one!

I envy you even if you don't have a white Christmas, you'll be close enough... Still so mild and rainy here, yuck.

Now that's a fantastic experience for the kid!

How neat to see a woodpecker eating out of someone's hand! The snow looks beautiful!

I've fed chickadees from my hand before but never a woodpecker. That would be a treat. I'm glad the little boy had that experience.

Odessa is still inspired by it's German descendants. A lot of the midwest and even eastern Washington was settled by immigrants from Russia but they were Germans. Quite an interesting history. Anyway here is a link to deutschfest .

The bird feeding out of hands is so lovely. Merry Christmas.

I guess it is a good thing that the snow has melted, but my attitude about living in the north is that, so long as you have to be cold, you might as well have a white Christmas.

That tree is so pretty with the snow and the blue skies!!!

I wonder if anyone will have a white Christmas this year. I don't think we will. Nice photos.

How cool! Not sure I would want a woodpecker pecking food out of my hand though! LOL!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Stewart M said...

Thats not the kind of view I get from my windows - neither the snow nor the bird!

Very nice.

Hope you have a good Christmas.
