Lake Hockey

Getting ready to step out onto Lake Scugog

It was a cold day but Canadian kids - the ones who LOVE to play hockey anyway - are TOUGH.

Truck and plow clearing the snow

One player can't wait to get out onto the ice

Conversation with a girl hockey player

Proof that not just Canadian guys are tough when it comes to the weather!

Hockey was meant to be played on a pond. Great shots! :)

What fun! I would be afraid to drive a truck on the ice, but it looks like it's frozen enough.

Classic Canadian winter scene. I love the first shot of the kidlet prepping to head out onto the ice.

looks like the driver of the snow plow is tough to, i would NOT drive a truck on that ice... isn't that water just the other side of him? ice skating is so good for kids, my hubby loved it when he lived in snow country

Somehow I never think of snow on a beach and having to be cleared like roads and sidewalks! Great shots for the day as always and a great start for my day as well -- as always!! Hope you have a lovely weekend!! Stay warm!!

I never tried this, and maybe I am too old now...

Here big pond hockey tournaments have returned. Lots of interest too.

The guy in the truck probably has the heat on.

Growing up in S. Dakota, I remember shoveling off frozen lakes so we could ice skate. Good memories.

It is, after all, the great game.

EG CG, I like it! Anyone who thinks a girl can't be tough better think again! John

Canadians liking to play hockey? Whoda thunk it!

Really though, these are beautifully captured moments in time... when joy and passion in the game outweigh any discomfort. The composition of the shots is, well, lyrical. =)

Well you certainly have the weather and ice for hockey there. Good shots.

Great colorful ice pictures! How do they find out if the ice is strong enough, is there a way to measure the depth? Did you post the birds today too? Or did I miss it from yesterday? They are gorgeous, and my favorite is the little sparrow, a wonderful shot!

Lovely sunny images.
Open water is pretty close, hockey can easily go into the water up, I think.

Very Canadian, EG! We are a tough lot. ;-))

When I love something, I move mountains to ensure that love gets an airing. In this case, moving snow is the answer. Great to see this kind of drive and tenacious spirit in the young.

Nothing beats skating on a pond on a cold winter day When the ice hard and smooth. I'm so glad kids still have the opportunity to experience it.

This is much like the old days, an impromptu hockey game, outdoors on ice, a throwback. Not like today where parents get their child players to an indoor rink at 5:00 AM...hockey as it was always meant to be played!

Anvilcloud said...

Very Canadian.

Giga said...

The most important will have to have where to play, and not that cold. Regards.

Now that looks like some real winter fun!

So they are very Canadian.
A very good day to you.

Wow! This scene is so far removed from us at the moment in rural Australia in summer. I love it!

Oh yeh, girls can do anything anything the boys can these days :) ice skating looks so much fun.

Kids and snow and ice -- perfect combinations especially if they are Canadian! Fun shots.

I love hockey, but playing on a real lake makes me nervous! I grew up in Michigan. Sometimes our water would freeze enough to do that, but I never really trusted it.

How thick is your ice this time of year?

NatureFootstep said...

that seems dangerous to me. Is that open water?? I hope they skate on the beach.

My Little Home and Garden said...

Good for them, out enjoying the day! It's rather nice to know that kids still skate outdoors and not just in arenas. You caught a couple of quintessential winter moments.

This reminds me of my youth when my father would clear patches on ponds and lakes so that we could all skate. I never played hockey, though. Good for these young ones, out there on the ice. So much better than being on the Internet or playing video games.

What a nice place to skate !!

Cool! Kids always know how to have fun.

This is quite exotic to this guy from Oklahoma. My mother grew up in Idaho and she said that her parents always made them come in when it to be 25 below. Then again she was Irish and was known to embellish from time to time.

Oh, I LOOOVE your red today...:)

brrrr and so close to the water! Intrepid kids!

I don't think I'd make it with all that cold. Lovely captures.

You have to be super tough to handle that cold.
I loved this post with some cool scenes!
Have a Beautiful Day, Tina!

Oh wow! That must be frozen pretty solid for a truck to be on the ice! Looks like Canadians are tough!
