My dad was in the Merchant Navy and we had a bell much like photo 2 outside our front door . If we were out playing, my mom could ring it to let us know supper was ready.
i love the sound of the bells warning the train is coming.. more than the horns...but i do love the wail of the horns on the diesels now from a distance
Gosh darn, I was going to join back in when A was up again, and now you all are at N, and I'm still way behind. Your photo is ringing sweetly across my eyes!
The bell is fascinating, Tina. My high school was right next to the rail tracks, so we saw all kinds of trains go by - diesel electric, steam locomotive, etc. It was always fun hear the noises and to see if they were running on time.
Mrs. Jim's mom, my MIL, used to live a blog away from the track. Those train noises are like music to us. Now where we are sometimes on the porch on a quiet and still winter night I can hear a train some miles away. ..
East Gwillimbury is a rural town less than an hour north of Toronto, Canada's largest city.
My family calls me CameraGirl because I take my camera with me wherever I go.

Those horns DO make a lot of noise :)I almost fell off my bike once when they started hooting :))

I have never heard these horns in action. Going by Knipsa's comment, that might be a good thing.
I have heard these horns, they are loud! Have a great day!
Love old railroad stuff. Neat photos. Once in a while I see an old railroad bell on eBay ... it is amazing how much collectors will pay for them.

That is a great, old bell!
They are extremely noisy!
Think I'd rather hear the bell than the horns. Great noisemaker pics.

I was walking under a foghorn as a kid once when it went off. Almost jumped in the ocean!
some nice details!
These are two wonderful photos. I especially like the air horns.
It's a wonder that all railway workers aren't deaf as posts!
Quite a neat looking bell!
Amazing details, I still have a huge whistle my dad took from an old steam engine...
Ah, believe me, they did indeed make a LOT of noise and I do remember them!! Another fun post for the day!!

I would like the sound of the bell but the horns probably make more noise.
They can certainly be awfully loud when you least expect it. Great shots!
I would not want to be standing near those horns...but bet the bell has a pleasant sound if not too close to it. And maybe even then.
Those air horns can be really loud! Don't you wish you could have blown one?
I'd like a horn like that for my car!
A wonderful old bell and still ringing too! Nice to see your share. Have a great week and come visit soon.
