Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottus)
We've been watching for this feathered fellow for several weeks. It's a year-round resident here but he had been eluding us until last week when a birder friend told us he had seen the mockingbird munching on some small rose hips.
Hips from wild rose
Turns out the bird is quite willing to eat supper if its hungry enough, even when there are people a few feet away.
Which one looks tastiest?
I guess these hips were tasty enough to take the risk.
YUM!

Great shots of the mocker, the berries look pretty too. Have a happy day!
The mockingbird is a very bold fellow where I live and highly territorial.
Glad you found the Mockingbird and these are superb shots of it.
Bird, red fruits, this time the wonderful pictures. Regards.
I've never seen a mockingbird in the wild, although I've heard them on occasion... lovely wee birds. You've framed him beautifully with those tempting rose hips!
Superb shots of the Mockingbird in every pose. I love the last one with the berry in his beak.
Oh how I wish I could snap the smaller birds. Absolutely love your little mockingbird EG.
Just wonderful!
Beautiful pictures :)
Have a fine day

Hi EG CG, I used to see these birds in Texas when I was growing up. But they never looked as good as they do in your photos! Nice work! I don't think these birds are in the Pacific Northwest, or at least I haven't seen them. Now, thank you so much for your comment with info about Betty's meme. Your suggestion is well taken and I think you'll see John's Island on Rubbish Tuesday in the not too distant future. Thank you for your time on that and have a good day! John
Great pictures, I love the colours and detail in the feathers. You must have a super camera! And lots of photographic talent too!!
Such a fluffy fellow. I am really taken with the colors in the photo's.

These shots are really lovely. The red berries make them special somehow.
=)
sweet photos
Oh very nice. The last pic exactly! So beautiful.
And what a pretty bird it is!
We have a similar situation over at GDP today. The red berries really make the bird pop. Your photos are amazing!

Beautiful, wonderful captures. You could not have asked for any better posing!
A perfect sequence of photos!
I envy you both the spring and these bird photos!
Very nice set of photos. He's so pretty!
You take wonderful photos with Tina's lens, but I am not sure why you feel the need to credit it on every shot. Besides, the photographer takes the photo, not the lens. You are doing very well.
Nice shots, he's great looking.
awesome shots! love that you keep them year round way up there. :)
Wonderful shots! I love these birds and their songs.
I love the Mockingbird and listening to them. These are awesome shots! Simply beautiful.
These are beautiful photos of the mockingbird (and the rose hips).
What a cute little guy! Fantastic photos, especially your last one.
He is very puffed up against the cold, EG! We have a mockingbird who lives nearby but I think he heads south for the winter as I've never seen or heard him in the cold.
Love the color of the bird, the berry and the wintery background!
Have a Beautiful Day!!
Peace :)
Excellent series of the Mockingbird enjoying a well earned meal.
such a pretty bird. I had no idea that is what a mockingbird looked like.
Those poor birds have to be so cold up there right now with every snow storm coming through. It amazes me how they all can survive. Down here, the Northern Mockingbirds are getting ready to find a friend to nest with:)
Beautiful photos! How nice they stay around all year.
A handsome bird. We don't see down here.
That last shot is wonderfully captured!
I have a mockingbird that visits my suet feeder every day.
Oh , I do love your birds picures! You should make a book with them !
Wonderful photos, great captures !
Happy, pretty bird! And no, no, not to kill a mockingbird!
Ah, I always look forward to your bird pics!! They are the next best thing to having the birds around my house!! Delightful!! Such incredible details!! Hope your week is going well!! Stay warm -- you and the birds!!
An amazing sequence!
You got some great pictures of this bird. I have only seen one a couple of years ago.
Super duper pictures, and I love how you captured his yellow eye. I adore the picture of the berry in his beak! I like how he is all puffed up, it was cold. I stay always from them, because I was attacked by one once!So I am glad my camera has a super long zoom.
What wonderful shots of the Mockingbird. I haven't seen any this winter.
I've watched them sit still for several minutes. They're not as "flighty" as other birds so they're good photo subjects. We have a large population of mockingbirds. Hardly a day goes by that I don't see them. He looks so pretty amongst the red berries.
I love to hear and see mocking birds , it looks cold in the first shot. Great images.
great shots, I have never seen one of those before.
Fabulous pictures, you must have a lot of patience.
These are gorgeous! I love the one with the berry in it's mouth!
Beautiful captures! I love that you caught him eating the berries. I haven't seen one around here for 2 years, which was the first time we'd had one in our area. Their 'song' is very interesting isn't it.
That first shot is my favorite. Looks like a nice candidate for a card.
I haven't seen mockingbirds in the Pacific Northwest...now I wonder if it's because I'm looking for a different bird. They look quite different in California, not at all like this little darling. And your rose hips are tiny compared to the ones we have around here! I love being able to compare!
Fabulous captures of this bird especially the last shot!
A favorite bird shown nicely!

Wonderful series!
The berries look very delicious.
Wonderful photos!! xx
Gorgeous photos of a lovely bird! I certainly love Northern Mockingbirds - we have them here, too. Last weekend, when it was like spring here, I already heard them sing again - such a beautiful song! He certainly had spring feelings!
Such beautiful photos! I love winter photos of birds with berries. That this was a mockingbird and those rose hips made it extra special!
These are amazing shots!
A mocking bird. We don't have them here but have read of them in books so it was very interesting to me to see what they look like!
A bird we don't have round my part of the world Such a shame so cute
So cute. I love that last shot, berry in mouth.
