The dam at the Talbot Lock
Thursday was a lovely sunny day, still chilly for this time of year but the sun was promising that warmer weather and spring are getting closer. My husband and I checked out a few of our favourite places north and northeast of where we live. And one of the places was the Talbot Lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway that links Lake Ontario to Lake Huron.
Lock 38
Still lots of snow and ice!

Beautiful sunshine pictures :)
Love seeing all that ice on the water, didn't have that here at all.
Have a sunny Sunday :)

Nice to get out after this COLD winter. Heatwave coming this week. It is going up to zero.
Wonderful images, last night was the first time here that I have sat outside this year. Spring is coming ;-)
It is great to get out and enjoy a sunny day.. Wonderful shots of the lock! Happy Sunday!
I have read about locks and seen them in movies but never seen a real one.
It is lovely, but time for it to all start to melt! I did a snowshoe yesterday. Knee-deep snow. I was exhausted. Yes, time for a melt!
I love watching the locks and you live in a beautiful spot to be able to do that...very beautiful there.
I am waiting patiently for the shift in the weather...they say this week...I hope so!
hopefully this week we may start to get a bit of melting around here with the slightly warmer temperatures......we hope!
Oh gee! I've followed your blog forever...have admired your talent at photography, and your writing skills...have recognized many spots you have visited, but this takes the cake! This post is about my backyard. We live just above this lock!
Cool photos. In more ways than one! :-) Wishing you some warmer weather. Thanks for sharing your photography.
I see that the winter is still going strong in Canada, but also that you utilize the opportunity this gives you very well. My favourite is the second one with it "straight on" shot.
It's nice to be put and about on a sunny day. It gives opportunity to discover new placed or make pictures of old familiar ones.
Very beautiful photos. Glad that you two could enjoy being out and about.
It's nice to visit favourite places in different seasons. It was a lovely sunny day for your outing.
Looks beautiful, but chilly!
I love the lock but you can keep all that snow and ice!
very freezy! but the bright sun sure makes this cheery!
Beautiful photos. The sun makes it look so pretty and almost warm.
That's an area we've never explored. Maybe worth a drive some day - or even a boat ride down the canal?
I like this one. Ice still in.
I've crossed portions of that canal here and there, but have never really explored it. Beautiful shots!
No boats for a little while yet.
When I was a kid, the town I lived in was on the Mississippi and I loved to go down to watch the boats go through the lock. Whenever I go back for a visit, I still make some time to do it.
I'm enjoying your winter scenes, since winter seems to have bypassed the Pacific NW this year.
Wow what a nice place to visit. That's quite a rise for the passage of the boat! Spring is in the air- it won't be long and all the lake ice will be melted. I hate to hurry life along but in this case I can't wait for winter to do just that! Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a wonderful week ahead!
Beautiful winter photos, Tina.
Locks are always fun to watch.
This one is particularly interesting, given it connects two great lakes!
Have a Beautiful Day!
Peace :)
I know that it is still COLD, but it does look warmer with the wonderful sunshine -- and beautiful blue skies always helps!! Stay warm and have a lovely day, Tina!!
I love locks, but I guess this isn't the best season to see them working...
So interesting to see, and what beautiful sunlight too! I imagine that it was incredibly cold though! xx
Really pretty looking.
Yes, still pretty much winter, but it will soon be melting! Spring is knocking!
Oh my, that looks so cold! At least its melting~! :)
It is always fascinating to watch boats going through a lock!
There is actually snow melting here!
That would be sooooo perfect for me right now!
How beautiful the tall evergreens are surrounding the locks, so fresh and thick, above the frozen water.
Have a lovely week!

Still looks cold. But really pretty!
Now I am confused. I didn't think Lake Ontario and Lake Huron were connected, so I even checked them out on Google Maps. They don't touch. Did they make a canal from H to O to bypass Lake Erie? Why? When? Is it just for pleasure boats, or for some kinds of commercial traffic, like perhaps iron ore? All these questions . . .
OK, I went to Wikipedia and got most of my answers. It is astonishing how many things I don't know.
Looks cold but still so beautiful. I would love to be there in summer, too.
It remarkable how much snow has melted since you took this frosty photo! Beautiful shots!
