Franklin Pond, East Gwillimbury
My husband and I have visited several ponds in the past few days to check out how much ice has melted. Close to home, the ponds are still ice covered, but this one is melting at the edges.
Ice still on Reesor Pond pond, but it was melting
Reesor Pond is a favourite place for migrating Canada Geese. It's actually a holding pond for a nearby subdivision and not very deep. Once geese find a bit of water there in spring, they keep it open by swimming and splashing in it.
A sunny but windy day
At first glance, it looked like there were only Canada geese, but when I looked closer I also spotted Cackling Geese, Snow Geese, Buffleheads, Common Mergansers, Mallards and Ring-bill gulls. They are on the move!
Mckenzie Marsh has a creek running through it and it is is now completely free of ice.
I am linking to Saturday Critters HERE.

I've seen quite a few robins around.... but they look very cold!
The geese and other water birds here also take advantage of all natural and manmande bodies of water.
Great pics!
Ah, you can almost feel how happy they are to have some "unfrozen" water! Beautiful birds and great captures for the day and a big smile to start my day as well!!

I love the last picture of the marsh! And a beautiful red winged. So many different geese and other birds, you must have had a ball! And I can see that in your pictures.
A lovely series, E.G. I especially enjoy watching all those ducks. I imagine we'll be seeing some of the Canadian Geese down this way soon. Actually, some of them have smartened up and stay here all year! :)
Some really nice reflections, too!
I kept looking for birds in the first photo! Duh!
Isn't it wonderful seeing the signs of spring? I cannot imagine living where there weren't 4 distinct seasons. You appreciate the change.
Love your birding. My goldfish pond began melting, but it's frozen up again. sigh.

Looks like a fabulous place for bird spotting and it must be nice for you to see some unfrozen water!
Nice photos - I always look forward to seeing and hearing the Red-wings. LOVE their songs.
I like how they all face the same way!
What a beautiful series!
These are wonderful!
Beautiful pictures and I especially love the blackbird...
Looks like quite the flock of geese. Love how you caught some in flight. We just got our first redwings back not to long ago--they have such a sweet song.
You have a good eye. I just took an online web cast offered by Cornell on waterfowl identification and strange waterfowl hybrids. Wow... the possibilities are endless. SOOO nice that we are moving into true spring finally...Michelle
Great shots- and quite a crowd!
Love all the geese, WOW!
Trying to play catch up and I must say those geese in flight are PERFECT!...:)JP
