I just have to ask ... why a guard llama? I mean I know they will spit at you if you disturb them, but is there more I should know. I think it is really cool, especially if they can really take on a wolf or a coyote ... but this is all new to me. Great pictures by the way :)

Oh my gosh, those are just the cutest photos!
This is a very pretty llama in its coloring and markings. They're becoming quite popular here in Texas although I'm not really so sure that they have super guard duties but they are known to alert herds as to impending danger. In fact, something killed one of our neighbor's llamas and it was thought to have been a coyote, the one predator around here we think of as being a danger to small calves and pets. I guess that llama must have fallen asleep on his watch or maybe just wasn't on guard duty that night.

I know they have an innate loathing for canines, which is what makes them very good shepherds. They'll stand up to a wolf or a coyote, and they're a lot bigger. The predator or predators will decide it's a better idea to go look for an easier meal.

Some people have guard llamas here in Virginia. I haven't seen one with spots like that though.

What a pretty creature. Here in Australia we don't see a lot of Llamas (in fact I don't think I have ever seen one). However, Alpacas are very popular and used as guard animals as well as for their wool.
I love the idea of having a guard llama. If I had a flock, I'd get one for sure!
