" Ditch lilies" at the side of the road
Ditch lilies are a "fond" name of the daylilies that grow beside the road, often wild. I love the bold statement they make, brightening up the landscape. They are great in areas where they can be allowed to spread but not garden friendly as they take over.
A large grouping of ditch lilies
These daylilies are at the foot of a long, long driveway leading to a BIG country home.

Whoa! So beautiful.
My heart feels so happy.
what a wonderful splash of colour.
They do look pretty along the road, a cheery sight for sure! Lovely images. Happy weekend!
They don't seem to grow in the wild here; I wonder why not. Non-native plant or not they certainly brighten up the roadside.
I would be happy for them to take over. Grand they are.
I love these; we always called them 'tiger' lilies.
I'd be delighted if these would take over my garden. :-)
Yes, they do brighten the landscape; I made the mistake of planting one but they are so invasive!!!
Beautiful! They do seem to be everywhere right now, don't they?
triple WOW on that first photo.. really beautiful, they can live in my ditch any time
we saw these all over lancaster but i had no idea they were called ditch lilies. they are beautiful, and the name seems a little harsh but correct at the same time. i wish they grew like that for me, maybe i try too hard?!
Beautiful and colorful!! I love them!! Your captures are superb as always, EG!! Hope you have a great weekend!!
I have seen these, but didn't know the name...
I have daylilies in my garden, but didn't know they grow wild. Very pretty!
I have some in my garden but they don't do very well and they haven't spread. Probably because I want them to.
Nice that they do so well growing wild along the road.
Too beautiful to be relegated to ditches. There ought to be a law.
They have such pretty colours.
Wow! These daylilies are really beautiful!
I have on my garden daylilies too.
Have a happy day! :)
I've never heard of them called that before, EG! It is lovely to see them everywhere at this time of year.
They always add colour to the roadside!
These lilies always make me feel summer is really here
Wonderful photos. Lilies are so beautiful! Thank you!
Really delightful photos. Greetings!
Their orange colour is very attractive!
I love seeing these along the country roads or around abandoned homes and farms. They are beautiful!
I'm not sure we have these here, they are lovely!
I love the name "Ditch Lillies" I don't if Oklahoma has them or not but I'll be keeping my eye out.
I love lilies, wherever they grow!
We have these lovely ditch lilies here too. Always a beautiful sight.
I had to read this three times before I saw that it was "ditch" lilies, not "Dutch!" That's a new term to me, and a perfect one for something like this.
They sure do liven up the side of the roadway.
Bounteous! And your words about cameras and lenses gave me a road-map; Thank Again!
I always think they are so beautiful! Lorelei likes to stop on the way home to cut a bunch to take a bouquet to her mom.
Their vibrancy is remarkable.
Such a positive vibe around them that I can feel through your photo.
Thanks for brightening my day, Tina!
Have a Great Weekend!
Peace :)
Beautiful pictures. I would love to see ditches full of flowers like that.
Hi! The lily photos are very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Ditch Lilies are a good, descriptive name for these plants.
We have lots of daylilies here but then maybe so does every other place in this Western Hemisphere. There is even a daylily farm just a few miles over and it's so much fun to visit during the approximate 20 days a year they are open to the public. When we see flowers such as these or iris or crape myrtle trees growing in the wild we always attribute it to the fact that once there was a home nearby where they were planted and loved by a faithful gardener and long after she is gone and the home does not exist they remain as a testament to her.
They are very pretty. We have those in the garden. Almost finished though.
Such warm colors, and dependable flowers. It was the toughness of the ditch lilies that encouraged me to get into growing daylilies for a while.
They are beautiful aren't they! xx
Wow! I have never heard the term "ditch lilies." The day lily season is one of my favorites, especially out in country roads. Maybe I will take a ride out into the country later this coming week.
Beautiful! There's a bunch growing and blooming in my ditch too. Love them.
