Killdeer standing in puddle #1
This is Mama Killdeer also seen here . She was, I believe, on the opposite side of the puddle from her baby. Doesn't she look calm? She's a very good actress.
Killdeer standing in puddle #2
Still looking very calm. Well, I hadn't gotten too close to her baby and she was fine with that. You can't see Dad, but he is putting on an even more convincing act, playing the "broken wing" trick. How interesting that he seemed more alarmed than Mama!

I love the cute killdeer! Great shots!
Wonderful animal and lovely photos!
that's men for you such drama queens!!!
I laughed so hard at Gill's comment I had to clean my monitor!
Killdeer... they amuse and perplex me, especially their penchant for laying their eggs on gravel roads and drives.
Good and caring parents!
Now Dad is the defence/action man while Mum keeps her cool. Both tactics are grat in protecting their young ones. Greaat shots.
I love those. Watching the killdear is always so fun.
She's quite attractive as well as being a good actress. Maybe she's got a chance at the movies?
beautiful!!
she is one beautiful mama
Such beautiful photos of a beautiful bird! xx
Beautiful bird, wonderful photos. Isn't that how is works even with humans, Mom's don't react as much as Dad's. She sensed that you weren't going to hurt her baby, you were showing the respect that made her watch you with real intent instead of panicking. Oh heck, what do I know?
:)
I like both photos, but the second one is a masterpiece!
Great reflection and such a clear picture. I like the stripes.

Great capture - a bird and a reflection!
She is sure keeping an eye on you, EG!
So cute, and nice that she posed so you could get a lovely shot of her.
The second photo is very well done.
I did not see nay this year. They are so sweet looking.
Love the coloring.
She stands out so well.
Awesome looking bird!
Ah, that second shot is awesome indeed!! What a beauty she is!! I've never seen a Killdeer before! Thanks, as always, for sharing!! Hope you have a beautiful weekend!!
Great shot. I particularly like the colors in this one.
=)
Pretty neat reflection- I had to laugh at Gill's comment, because it is so true. LOL!
Have a great weekend!
They are pretty birds. Father's instincts must be underrated!
Pretty portraits. I always want to tell them that I wouldn't hurt their babies for anything. They go to so much unnecessary work (we see them here in Oregon quite often).
She was alert, though.
The world needs more lerts!

Even with a name like that, a friendly bird for the deer and other mammals :)
