Female Belted Kingfisher
I took this photo a month or so ago but have kept it waiting in my files, thinking I might get a better photo. BUT it has been too hot and muggy lately to visit the marsh where this bird hangs out. I was lucky to get this shot because another belted kingfisher thinks this area is his/her territory and just after I made this shot, it chased this female away!

Thanks, Andy! You reminded me that I had this photo in my archives!

That's what I like... the dive. :))
Superb capture and great click with the diver! Hope u get more wonderful photos on the belted one.
Kingfishers are spectacular birds! Photos of them always remind me of the first line of Gerard Manley Hopkins poem: As kingfishers catch fire, dragonflies draw flame;
Beautiful bird, like the diving shot

Fantastic shots, a real beauty of a bird.
I have only two pics of Kingfishers--they are too flighty to get a good pic.

Fabulous, EG! Love that dive too!
Wow, awesome shots of the Kingfisher. The second shot is amazing. Have a happy week!
I rarely see pictures of Belted Kingfishers, let alone any in-flight shots. Your pictures are truly unique - lovely work.
What a lovely bird. These photos are spectacular.
Blimey, what a haircut! :-) Fantastic shots!
Nice! Kingfishers are still on my list of "DRAT - I JUST missed it" shots.
Wonderful!!! I just now learned about the female/male belted kingfisher being that the female of this species is the larger and brighter colored. I too saw a belted kingfisher which I am planning on sharing at my bird photo blog this Saturday.
Excellent....it says "Tina"...so, EG is Tina? Now I know!!!
Both are great shots. These birds are not that easy to get close too,at least not in my area.
These are wonderful! I would be totally happy with them.
Fabulous shots!
Whoa! I'm so glad Andy reminded you of the second shot. It's amazing! I love the shot of the female, but it's terrific and special to see this guy in motion. Love these photos!
