Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps) family in early August
I always feel privileged to find and photograph these grebes as they are quite shy and dive under water when disturbed. This was the only decent photo I got. As soon as they saw me, they headed off, first sinking very low in the water so I could barely see them. Before they saw me they had been diving for small fish, insects and crustaceans. (I could just barely see them trough some shoreside shrubbery.)
I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

A skittish lot, it sounds like, much like the turtles on our C&O Canal.
Momma was definitely keeping an eye on you! Beautifully captured. =)
I've never seen these - interesting birds!
I hope you'll come by http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2015/09/steam-powered-whatchamacallits.html to share!

Hello, the grebes are so cute and I love the little ones. They are adorable, their markings are so cool. Great shot. Enjoy your day and the new week ahead!
You always manage to get a good shot EG! Love to see what birds are going to appear when I visit here.
What a find, the babies have very colour heads.
Wow, and look at all those babies! So cool!
Wonderful photo, EG. I don't know if I have ever saw them or not. I don't think I have, but there is one of the diving birds I see at the strip pits but too far away to identify.
Ah, you do indeed find and take the best shots, EG!! How beautiful these are!! Very different ducks for me, but you always find the good ones!! Hope you have a great day!!
Mama does seem to be keeping a close watch on you!
I can hear that mama now, ready children for some instructions on life?!
I love the wee ones, EG! I've never seen these guys before.
These were a new species to me (or I no too little of ornithology). Very nice shot.
What a great find!
A lovely family!

They're super cute!
Those little guys are so cute.
just awesome, tina!! i've only seen one or two of the adults in winter here and it's been several years since they've stopped by (too many whistlers, now, i think). and you get to see youngsters!!!
This is a lovely family, I love the markings on the babes.
Your patience paid off. What a pretty shot. The coloration on the necks is beautiful.
I had never seen the young ones...COOL thank you. Hug B
What beautiful birds they are! xx
I love their markings - like they have some fancy socks on their heads!
Great photos of birds I have never seen.
a sweet family :)
I've never seen a grebe, and feel quite happy to have seen a photo of something so difficult to capture pictures of.
neat coloring. ( :
It is a wonderful capture!
A cute family portrait!
Great shot. Is anything quite as cute as a baby grebe?
They are beautiful and unique with their patterns! Glad they decided to give chance for you to shoot :)
Lovely photo
It doth appear to me that mama Grebe has her eye on you as your poke your camera through the shrubs.
Oops! In re your question about the speakers...The Villages radio station plays their program though these speakers. Some of that consists of right-wing radio such as Rush Limbaugh. It is very much like "The Truman Show," a movie you've probably seen.
oh wow this is an amazing sight... and photo!
