Engine 136, the second oldest steam locomotive in Canada
My husband and I visited Tottenham yesterday to check out historical steam locomotive #136. Since August 2011 during summer and early fall, #136 has hauled an excursion train along four miles of track between Tottenham and Beeton. But in 1883, #136 worked for Canadian Pacific Railway when CPR became a Canadian transcontinental reality.

What fun to hear the old engine - running on coal - chugging along in the distance! The engine's horn gradually grew louder and a flagman appeared to stop cars and trucks from crossing the tracks.

South Simcoe Railway has run excursions since 1993. South Simcoe Railway is run by volunteers, all of whom have operational qualifications and must regularly re-qualify.

What a treat to get to see the engineer and the flagman up so close. Love the locomotive. We have a number of these here in our area and in the fall they all make special runs when the leaves are in full color. Every year we say we are going to make the trip. Maybe this will be the year. What a fun group of pictures to get my day off to a good start.

There's just something so appealing about old trains... great shots and interesting info!
Sounds like fun! When I return to Arizona I hope to take the train from Williams AZ in the northern part of the state to the Grand Canyon. We also have a small excursion train here in Texas where you can ride the train for a 30-mile ride through the pine forests of East Texas.

Hope you get to ride on this train sometime, and it must be more fun than watching! Love this locomotive and road crossing. Here we have stream trains for mountain rides and mostly used for tourism.
I feel very deprived, not having ridden a train (any kind of train) for hundreds of years! Sheesh! They are aways great fun. Well, the engineer and other workers may not think so, but...
Oh, I love these old trains...I don't know why, but trains fascinate me.
There is a special beauty about an old steam engine.The new trains may be more powerful but these old boys were very impressive.

This reminds me of the time we rode the Skunk Train through the forest of Northern California. I love trains; I wish I get to ride on them more often.

The new locomotives with the their diesel electric engines and huge batteries for braking are technological marvels but nothing beats the old steam powered locomotives.
