Male wigeon (Anas americana)
Although some American Wigeons are said to breed in Ontario, they are are somewhat rare here...unless it's migration season when they make stopovers at ponds and marshes. This male - along with a few others - was getting closer to where I was standing and I was hoping to get a super shot when...
Up and away
something happened and they all took off. I'm thinking there was a raptor in the area.
I am connecting to Stewart M's Wild Bird Wednesday HERE

Belas fotografias.
Um abraço.
A beautiful capture of when they went up, up, and away!
I've seen male pigeons, although I don't know how I would know the diff between male and female, but I've not seen a male widget, er, wigeon, before! :)
The American Wigeon is pretty, great sighting and photos. Have a happy day!
Oh well, you got a couple great shots anyway.
Migration patterns and behavior will always fascinate we humans.
What a great shot of the take off
Hello!:) The American Widgeon is a fine looking bird.I have some of those up and away shots, but they are beautiful too.Good shots!:)
I love the look of the widgeon...never saw one here.
now i wonder if they have passports to get from here to there... i have never seen one, so they must live in the NORTH America... of course these days unless they land in our pool i don't see anything.
I enjoyed seeing both shots.
very pretty shot.
I think you may be right EG, those falcons sure know how to break up a party :)
Great 'portrait' and even better action shot...
I like the flying action shot.
Very distinctive. I guess they tend to keep to the countryside... I can't recall seeing one in the city.
Ah, Perth is right, those falcons do indeed know how to break up the party!! Wonderful shots for the day as always, EG!! Hope your week is off to a great start!! Enjoy!!
He is so gorgeous! :) the raptor came at wrong time! Lovely pics!

Oh, gorgeous photos, as always. We're beginning to see more and more flocks of birds migrating, small flocks for now but a lovely sight.

Nice shots! It is quite a sight to see a bunch of birds all take off from water at the same time.
Pretty thing. So it wasn't the sound of your camera shutter? :-)
That's a new one for me, EG! I like the take-0ff shot.
A pretty little guy!
Can't be too careful with photographers out and about. :-)
I do like the up and away shot!
Great to get that nice taking flight shot ... I can almost hear them!
We had a good sized flock that was bedding down last winter not too far from our house...but it was always too far to get a decent shot. They make interesting sort of whistling sounds.
Beautifully captured!
The Wigeon swimming on the blue water is especially beautiful. Trying to guess when and why birds take flight is a constant puzzle I think!
The Wigeon is beautiful. And what a good timing to capture the up, up and away shot!
Love the shot of them all taking off!
That's a mass exodus!
A lovely duck
Excellent capture and good finding them around there! Have a nice day
You captured the great moment of their flying off!!
It's a very neat looking duck.
The second shot has so much action and drama.
Great captures.
Beautiful observation ;-)

That's what I've heard! I have a friend in Maine who had a hard time finding one. Down here right now, they are everywhere!
