Canadian Pacific Railway train at the Orangeville station
This mural by Allen C. Hilgendorf is painted on four pieces of wood and hangs high up on the westerly side of a store (possibly a restaurant) on the main street in Orangeville.
The Barley Vine Rail co. - a restaurant, formerly the repurposed Orangeville Rail Station
Built in the late 1850s, this station sports a "witches hat" common in the Victorian era. It's one street south of the main street in Orangeville and has a good-sized parking lot. I didn't see any rail tracks, though, so I'm thinking it may have been moved to this location. The chimneys are gone , the foundation is now concrete, and the building has a slightly different shape from the one in the mural.

You know I am a fan of murals. Even though the building has had some changes, it is still very recognizable as the train station. I like your "then" and "now" character of this post.
So interesting to compare. I'm happy they moved and conserved the building instead of destroying it. Love the mural EG.

looking at the first pic i thought that station doesn't go with the train, it looks modern. then i read the witches hat is common. i have never seen one any where or even in a movie or on TV... i like the idea of painted on wood

That mural looks great.
So does the building that used to be the railway station.
I would love to own a railway station, and I must say this is one of the best I have seen. I can just see having one as my quilting studio.

What an interesting and lovely building.
It's a lovely design, and that name is used over here as well, we even have a water tower with a roof like that and they call it the Witch's Tower!
