On the dock in the harbour, Midland, Ontario
This sculpture celebrates the volunteers and donors who supported the reintroduction of Trumpeter Swans into the nearby Wye Marsh and Georgian Bay.
Another view of the same sculpture
By the mid-1930s there were no Trumpeters in Ontario due to overhunting for their meat and feathers. In fact, there were only 77 pairs in all of Canada. Today Trumpeter swans are a protected species in Ontario - so it's illegal to hunt or harass them.
I am linking to Saturday Critters HERE.

Nice sculpture, though nowhere near as impressive as the real thing, of course. Thank heaven that they're being protected now.

Glad they preserve the swans and beautiful sculptural tribute to volunteers who reintroduced the birds!
A beautiful sculpture. Glad that these birds are protected now.
Neat sculpture, and a great story of reintroduction success!
I think the pair of swans that return to the Stouffville reservoir every year are trumpeters.
A pretty sculpture. And it doesn't have to go away in winter.

That is very cool. The artist captured well the sense of motion/flight!
It is a beautiful sculpture.
That is beautiful. It reminded me of the design of the French Concorde. Perhaps they took the design from a swan in flight.
