Female and male Northern Pintail (Anas acuta)
Supposedly, Pintails are here in south-central Ontario only during migration, but I have seen them on standing on ice in mid winter. As long as they can still get food these two may not move on, although the weather has turned quite a bit colder so perhaps they have already headed farther south.
Female Northern Pintail
The female may not be as striking as the male, but she is still a beauty!
Male Northern Pintail
Males are easy to recognize even from a long distance. They have long necks with a white stripe.

More beautiful bird shots. I don't think Florida is one of their annual stops, though.

In my opinion the Pintail drake is one of the most handsome ducks around.
Wonderful birds to see
Nice shots of a pair of good looking ducks. I really do need to pay more attention to ducks. I suspect I've been missing my share of these.
You do know your fowl, and you know how to find them.
Beautiful!
Happy New Year!

The male of the species is certainly attractive and distinctive - great shots, E.G. Thank you for the joy your photography has brought to my life throughout 2015 - wishing you and yours a safe, happy and healthy 2016.
They have such a quiet beauty!
Wonderful pintails!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful images! I think these are among the best looking ducks on the planet.
We have been getting more pintails here on the North Carolina outer banks just in the last few weeks. I suspect many will stay much further north unless we get some actual winter weather.
Thanks for posting on one of my favorite ducks. I usually only get to see them in winter from Florida to Texas, depending on where I'm living but will be right on the edge of their breeding range this spring, so maybe I'll get to see the babies.
