Young birders
Start kids young loving the environment and our planet will have a much better chance of surviving climate change, I bet. These two are waiting for chickadees to discover the seed in their hands.
Close encounter with a Hairy Woodpecker
This two-year-old boy was delighted when the woodpecker landed in his dad's hands. Dad is a seventh-grade science teacher who brings a busload of kids from his classes to this conservation every year. His lucky son doesn't have to wait till he's 13 to have this experience.
Such Excitement!
Such excitement!
This little girls is thrilled that this mallard has come this close to her to accept a handful of seeds.

Wonderful to see. Thank you
It is a good thing to get them to appreciate nature. The woodpecker shot is my favourite.

how lovely to be able to feed a woodpecker :)
I just love the excitement in the youthful faces.
Learning about nature is beautiful.
Oh delightful post and photos ~
that little girl reminds me of me when I was little and seeing the mallard ducks in Boston at the Public Gardens! I am still 'gleeful' when I see animals of all kinds.
Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year,

Pretty thrilling to have these close encounters.
Oh that is just perfect.I love seeing the younger generation developing a love for nature.
I've never seen a woodpecker eat from someone's hand but the Downy woodpeckers at my mother's feeders sit right above your head while you fill the suet feeder so maybe they could be coaxed onto the hand. Nice post, EG!
So nice to see young people enjoying these birds!
Young nature lovers are so important!
A good post. Yes i do agree to start them off young.over here though we stay in the ity, we will try and bring our boy to the park or beach instead of malls most of the time
Good stuff! I've never seen a woodpecker land on a hand!
I'm with you. We need as many nature lovers as we can get.

Such sweet shots! We have a bird sanctuary here that my grandchildren love to visit.

Wishing you will have a wonderful and happy coming Year 2016, Dear friend☆☆☆
I am with you on kids growing with nature conscious, and beginning with early stage will help lead for better changing. These are feel good photos on kids feeding birds and experiencing nature to wonder.
I knew some birds could be handfed, but a Woodpecker - Amazing!
Cuties!
wow...a woodpecker in the hand. A duck, they have no fear...but surprised with the woodpecker.
I would also be very excited if I had a hoopecker eating on my hand! :-) Lovely!
Love this! Pure joy ! And they are lucky kids ... The 13 year olds in their dads classes are lucky too, but not quite as!
Children and animals are such a great combination! I remember how my children took care of a young black bird, a mere fledgling, who fell out of the nest.
I wish you a great 2016!

I can't imagine getting to do that in school! I would have been beyond thrilled.
My son (adult) wintered over a white crowned sparrow who had missed the migration last year, in a cage in his cabin. He rather hoped it might stay behind this year, too, but is buying weiners to feed to the weasel who lives on the property and has befriended him instead...
yesterday, I saw a lot of Canadian geese here.
